I have an action camera that I converted to full spectrum, so I can capture infrared and ultraviolet light with it. Using the video lapse feature and a screw on pass through filter I made some videos of clouds overhead through out the day.
I set it up in the morning and let it capture video for about twelve hours. Using an external power supply it can run for a little longer than that. In this video I use two different filters, one being 720 nanometer filter and the other being a 900 nanometer filter. We start off with the 720 and it gives the sky a yellow hue to it. The clouds are bright white and the trees are a satin white as they reflect the infrared away from themselves.
The 900 nanometer filter gives a more black and white appearance wiping out all the colors of the visual spectrum. Though I noticed a strange artifact forming in the video, around the 4 minute mark you can see what appears to be integrated circuits. I am wondering if the pass through filter is reflecting the cameras sensor off the glass and then being picked up again as its own reflection in the video. Very strange, I have never seen anything like that before.
I did not notice this at the time of the recording, so its something I need to see if I can repeat. I did not see that IC pattern showing up with the 720 nanometer filter. So I think I will take the camera outside again and try to repeat and see if it does not show up in the 720 but does show up in the 900.
The 900 nanometer infrared cut-off filter is not a common screw on filter I use much. I prefer the 720 as the yellow hue looks real cool to me. Though the 900 creates a natural black and white image. But through post processing I could do the same with the 720 nanometer infrared cut-off filter video and wipe out the color.
Since I modified my action camera by removing something called a "hot mirror" which blocks most IR and UV light. And by screwing on the above mentioned cut out filters I can then isolate light to one wavelength giving me different appearances to the scene.
