I’ve been thinking a lot, lately, about AI. It has always amused me how much everyone misunderstands what AI as we know it is. They have delusions of computers becoming self-aware and taking over the world. That was just a series of movies you fool.
Human level AI will NEVER happen. We don't even know how our own intelligence works and yet people somehow think we can program that into computers? You poor deluded fools. And then you think that those same computers are going to magically program themselves to be even smarter than us?
How does AI currently work? We feed it a bunch of information and then it correlates that information and spits out a reply. But look at the information we’re giving it. Tik-Tok and Instagram feeds. Facebook and X feeds. You know, where all the truth hides out.
I feel that I need to say the last sentence is sarcastic because some aren’t going to get it.
But the problem with AI is not only the source, but how we treat it. And it’s this treatment that is making humans dumber.
Think about this for a second. When you're a child you learned from your parents. You learned how to speak, walk, all sorts of things you learned from your parents. Your parents never learned from you. They never altered their way of doing things, you had to learn their ways.
However, when it comes to AI and computing in general, we - the creators - have to learn how to think like a computer. The computer doesn't seem to have to learn to think like us. Essentially, it's liking forcing the parents to learn from the child. The child knows nothing just like the computer. Therefore, learning from a computer will in essence cause us to be dumber. As we do so, AI seems smarter. We built the stupid system, we are the smarter ones for doing so, but we made ourselves dumber because to use the system effectively, we need to learn the system's way of doing things.
I'm not railing on AI. I LOVE AI. I think it's going to make so many things better and cheaper for consumers in general. What I hate is how we fear a system we created and know how to destroy. I hate we put that same system on a pedestal and praise it as our lord and saviour, when essentially, it's dumber than a box of rocks.
AI has fixed OCR and dictation. It will fix medicine and the economy, but it's nothing more than information that we gave it in the first place. It's also doomed to failure just like everything else that humans have created.
AI is not going to kill us all if it learns from us, but we will kill us all if we learn from AI.
