I don't know why, of all the places I visited when I went to Dieng... Arjuna Temple stuck in my head the most. Even though it's just an old stone standing in the middle of a large field, it feels different...
I'm not a poetic person, but when I sat there, watching the fog descend slowly... I felt like I was talking to the past. It was quiet, cool, but deep. That's it...
• Departed without a target, but instead got a lot
Going to Dieng was originally just a desire to find cold air, already... Didn't think about where to go,didn't have a list of must-see places. But when I saw the directions to Arjuna Temple Complex, I immediately turned. I thought, “okay, just stop by, who knows if it's interesting.”
And it turned out... more than interesting.
The air at that time was really cold , cloudy and covered the sky. I went there on a motorcycle, with my wife 🫶🥰... The road went up and down, which made my hands sore, but the scenery on the right and left made me forget my tiredness...
• The temple is not one, but many
Inside the complex, it turns out that there is not only Arjuna Temple. There are Semar,Srikandi,Puntadewa temples , and others. But Arjuna is the most iconic. Tall, standing alone, like the main character in a colossal movie.
There's a part that's being renovated too, very visible from the piles of wood and tools. But it makes the place look more alive, more “cared for”, not just abandoned...
• Crowded, But Not Noisy
Interestingly , even though there are many people , the atmosphere is not chaotic. Maybe it's because people automatically feel that this place is sacred , so there's not much shouting or noise. Even small children were calm.
My wife and I just walked slowly , sometimes stopping , sometimes sitting. There was no rush. It felt like all our movements had to be slow , like we were in our parents' place , and we couldn't be careless...
• Fees and Facilities
- Entry ticket : IDR.15,000 per person...
- Motorcycle parking : IDR.5,000...
- There are many small stalls outside the complex , where you can grab a coffee or some fried food...
- Toilets are also available , although the queue is sometimes a bit long...
• One moment I'll never forget
We sat near Puntadewa Temple , doing nothing. Just watching the fog descend from the hill.... My wife said, “I wish we had a house here, so we could sit like this every day.”
And I immediately thought, that's right. Life seems slower in a place like this. But that's what makes it comfortable...
• More than just a pile of rocks
Many people come here just to take photos. And that's fine. But if you have time, try to stay for a while. Listen to the sound of the wind , look at the details of the temple carvings , imagine how people used to build this using only human labor.
This is not just a tourist attraction. This is the legacy of the old people who somehow, can still stand until now...
One thing I learned from this visit : sometimes the simplest place gives the most profound feeling. It doesn't need to be crowded, it doesn't need to be exciting, it just needs to reach the heart...
