Greetings fellow travelers from around the world, I wish you a happy and blessed day, today I share the second part of my visit to the town of Pariaguán, Anzoátegui state, previously I told you that I made this trip in the company of my friend and it was a nice experience with several anecdotes that will go down in history and we laugh every time we remember them, we were studying at university and every time we had the opportunity to visit a region of Venezuela, we made the most of it, our visit to Pariaguán allowed us to get to know a beautiful plains town, Santa María de Ipire and several towns in the municipality.
Among them, we had the great opportunity to visit an indigenous community, I have always been drawn to the lifestyle these people lead and the harmonious relationship they maintain with the environment, so, as we were close to the Guanipa table, we began our journey to the community, there a classmate who lived in the area was waiting for us and was going to be our guide on the tour, we took the transportation to the town and in a few minutes we were already at the place where Elías was waiting for us, after getting off the bus we walked approximately 40 minutes, upon arrival we were greeted by the community leader who explained several aspects to consider for our visit, at the time we arrived they were carrying out different activities; preparing cassava and extracting curagua fiber, it is an activity they do in groups, the older people who know an ancestral technique to extract the fiber from the curagua teach the younger ones, to make cassava they also apply the same technique, thus this practice is passed down from generation to generation.
My curiosity to know how these activities were carried out led me to join the group that was extracting the curagua, at first glance it seemed simple, that was what I thought and very excited I joined the group. They explained to me how I was going to extract the curagua and I started relatively well. When I had been extracting the fiber for a short time, I was so focused on what I was doing that an ant landed on my arm and what I felt was the prick. I have had ant bites, but I must say that this one was strong. In a short time, the prick turned into a large welt and it became inflamed. The community leader quickly saw that my arm was swelling and looked for some kind of ointment, applied it and the swelling quickly went down. I felt good, even the pain was relieved. Despite this incident, my curiosity won over and I continued working, this time with more care and I managed to extract only a little fiber, nothing that can be compared to these skilled people, but I felt happy because I tried and I was able to extract fiber.
Saludos amigos viajeros en todo el mundo, deseo que tengan un feliz y bendecido día, hoy comparto la segunda parte de mi visita a la población de Pariaguán estado Anzoátegui, anteriormente les comenté que este viaje lo hice en compañía de mi amiga y fue una linda experiencia con varias anécdotas que quedaron para la historia y nos reimos cada vez que las recordamos, estábamos cursando estudios universitarios y cada vez que teníamos la oportunidad de visitar alguna región de Venezuela, la aprovechábamos al máximo, nuestra visita a Pariaguán nos permitió conocer un hermoso pueblo llanero, Santa María de Ipire y varias poblaciones del municipio.
Entre ellos, tuvimos la gran oportunidad de visitar una comunidad indígena, siempre me ha llamado la atención el estilo de vida que llevan estas personas y la relación de armonía que mantienen con el medio ambiente, así que, como estabamos cerca de la mesa de Guanipa, emprendimos nuestro viaje a la comunidad, allí nos esperaba un compañero de estudio que vivía en la zona e iba a ser nuestro guía en el recorrido, tomamos el transporte hacia el pueblo y en pocos minutos ya estábamos en el lugar donde nos esperaba Elías, luego de bajarnos del bus caminamos aproximadamente 40 minutos, al llegar nos recibió el líder de la comunidad y nos explicó varios aspectos a considerar para nuestra visita, a la hora que llegamos estaban realizando diferentes actividades; preparando casabe y extrayendo fibra de curagua, es una actividad que realizan en grupo, las personas mayores conocedores de una técnica ancestral para extraer la fibra de la curagua le van enseñando a las más jóvenes, para hacer el casabe también aplican la misma técnica, así esta práctica se va transmitiendo de generación en generación.
Mi curiosidad por saber cómo se realizaban estas actividades, me llevó a integrarme al grupo que estaba extrayendo la curagua, a simple vista parecía sencillo, eso fue lo que pensé y muy emocionada me uní al grupo me explicaron cómo iba a extraer la curagua y empecé relativamente bien, cuando llevaba un tiempo no muy largo extrayendo la fibra, estaba tan concentrada en lo que estaba haciendo que una hormiga se posó en mi brazo y lo que sentí fue el pinchazo, he tenido mordeduras de hormigas, pero debo decir que esta fue fuerte, en poco tiempo el pinchazo se convirtió en una gran roncha y se me inflamó, el líder de la comunidad rápidamente al ver que se me estaba hinchando el brazo, buscó una especie de ungüento, me lo aplicó y rápidamente la hinchazón bajó, me sentí bien, incluso el dolor se alivió, pese a este incidente mi curiosidad me ganó y seguí trabajando, esta vez con más cuidado y logré extraer solo un poco de fibra, nada que se pueda comparar con estas hábiles personas, pero me sentí feliz porque lo intenté y pude extraer fibra.
My friend went to the area where they were preparing the cassava and also offered to help, because she wanted to learn, after washing the cassava and peeling it, it is placed in the sebucan, a utensil made with palms, in which the cassava is introduced to crush it and extract the yare or poison, once the mixing process is finished it is taken to a budare to be cooked and later left in the sun, everything was going very well until my friend decided to leave the kitchen area to walk a little, she did not know that in the community there were several dogs and she left very calmly walking, when passing in front of the dogs, one barked at her and she in desperation to get out quickly got tangled and fell to the ground, when they called me I ran quickly, one of the young people who was preparing cassava, also ran with me and we helped her get up, she was full of dirt, they got her some water, she washed herself cleaned herself and continued preparing cassava, I also joined this group to accompany my friend and it was very exciting, it is admirable how these people with tools so advanced and simple utensils make a delicious bread.
After our stay in this indigenous community, we headed back to the town of Pariaguán, and Elías accompanied us as he had several errands to run in town. Upon arrival, he invited us to see the Redoma El Caballo (The Horse Roundabout). This is an iconic landmark in the city that refers to the plains activities of the Anzoátegui state. The state is unique in that it belongs to the coastal mountain region, given its location and the island zone it has in the north. In the south, it forms part of the Eastern Plains of Venezuela, and Pariaguán is located in this area. Hence the Redoma El Caballo (The Horse Roundabout), which refers to the agricultural activity carried out in this part of the state.
The horse roundabout is a very striking structure. In the center is a sculpture of a large, strong, and handsome horse. Its identification is on a semicircular fence, and the horse itself sits in a circle made of stones and concrete. The horse looks very realistic. I think if you pass by this place at night, you'd easily believe it's a real horse, as its pose, workmanship, and attention to detail make it unique.
Mi amiga se fue para la zona donde estaban preparando el casabe y también se ofreció para ayudar, pues quería aprender, luego de lavar la yuca y pelarla, esta se coloca en el sebucan, un utensilio elaborado con palmas, en el cual se introduce la yuca para triturarla y extraer el yare o veneno, terminado el proceso de mezclar se lleva a un budare para su cocción y posteriormente se deja al sol, todo iba muy bien hasta que mi amiga decidió salir del área de la cocina para caminar un poco, no sabía que en la comunidad habían varios perros y salió de lo más tranquila caminando, al pasar frente de los perros, uno le ladró y ella en el desespero por salir rápido se enredó y cayó al suelo, cuando me llamaron corrí rápidamente, uno de los jóvenes que estaba preparando casabe, corrió también conmigo y la ayudamos a levantarse, estaba llena de tierra, le buscaron un poco de agua, se lavó se limpió y continuó preparando casabe, también me uní a este grupo para acompañar a mi amiga y fue muy emocionante, es admirable como estas personas con herramientas no tan avanzadas y utensilios sencillos elaboran un delicioso pan.
Luego de nuestra estadía en esta comunidad indígena, nos dirigimos a la población de Pariaguán nuevamente y Elías nos acompañó pues debía hacer varias diligencias en el pueblo, al llegar nos invitó a conocer la redoma el caballo, es un lugar emblemático de la ciudad que hace referencia a la actividad llanera del estado Anzoátegui, el cual tiene la particularidad de pertenecer a la región costa montaña dada su ubicación y la zona insular que tiene en la parte norte, en el sur forma parte de los Llanos orientales de Venezuela y Pariaguán se encuentra en esta zona, de allí la redoma el caballo, que hace referencia a la actividad agropecuaria que se realiza en esta parte del estado.
La redoma del caballo es una estructura muy llamativa, en la parte central se ubica la escultura de un gran caballo fuerte y guapo, tiene la identificación en una valla semicircular y el caballo se encuentra en un círculo, hecho con piedras y concreto, el caballo parece muy realista, creo que si pasas de noche por este lugar fácilmente puedes creer que es un caballo real, pues su pose, acabado y cuidado en los detalles lo hacen único.
After visiting the redoma el caballo, we went with this friend to do several errands in the mentioned population, we had the opportunity to see some pharmacies, commercial establishments and then we went to the gas station to refuel, finally we went to a restaurant to eat and buy the provisions that we had to take on our return trip to the city of Puerto la Cruz, visiting the city of Pariaguán was a nice experience and I could see up close the elaboration of cassava and the extraction of the Curagua fiber with which the aborigines elaborate utensils and accessories such as; Visiting each region of Venezuela is a new learning experience that demonstrates the cultural richness that this beautiful country has, already in the terminal we said goodbye to Elias and started our trip back to Puerto la Cruz, I was really exhausted by the day, so while on the way back I sat as comfortable as possible to sleep and rest on the trip.
Después de visitar la redoma el caballo, fuimos con este amigo a hacer varias diligencias en la mencionada población, tuvimos la oportunidad de ver algunas farmacias, establecimientos comerciales y luego nos dirigimos a la estación de servicio para cargar combustible, finalmente fuimos a un restaurant para comer y comprar las provisiones que debíamos llevar en nuestro viaje de vuelta a la ciudad de Puerto la Cruz, visitar la ciudad de Pariaguán fue una linda experiencia y pude ver de cerca la elaboración del casabe y la extracción de la fibra de Curagua con la cual los aborígenes elaboran utensilios y accesorios como; carteras, hamacas jarras entre otras artesanías, además es una práctica ancestral que permanece vigente en el tiempo, visitar cada región de Venezuela es un nuevo aprendizaje que demuestra la riqueza cultural que tiene este hermoso país, ya en el terminal nos despedimos de Elías y emprendimos nuestro viaje de regreso a Puerto la Cruz, estaba realmente agotada por la jornada, así que mientras iba de regreso me senté lo más cómoda posible para dormir y descansar en el viaje.
