Of all the places I visited in Portugal, this was the most complicated to enter and I wondered why? I always passed in front of the Jeronimos Monastery but never entered and dedicated a post to this majestic architecture, which according to the municipal chamber of Lisbon is the most visited place by tourists from all over the world within the Portuguese territory! and wow... I checked, I spent more than an hour in line to get in! The question?... Was it worth it? With the cover of the post it is undoubtedly an opener to one of the most beautiful and complex tourist attractions I have visited.🚩🍍🚙

Visiting the Jeronimos Monastery is a mandatory visit if you come to Portugal, it is a symbol of Portuguese culture, you will be able to admire one of the most important Manueline style architecture in the country, the entrance to the Monastery is around 6-12 euros and of course I recommend buying it in advance on its website since it speeds up your entry into the site, you have to arm yourself with a lot of patience because there is not a single day where there is not an entrance line of more than 300 people and of course that is why the Monastery is the most visited of the country along with the Sintra Palace! You can come by car but bring coins because parking is very complicated! Any transportation passes through here from the comboio, underground metro, to buses.🚙🍍🚩
After a long time waiting🙇♂️🚙/ Luego de mucho tiempo en espera🏰🍍

I already knew that the moment I entered the waiting line to enter I had to have a lot of patience hahaha, something that I don't have enough of... xD, but the landscape is beautiful, the structure has many details to see and analyze, the Monastery was Commissioned by the King of Portugal Manuel I and who would have the daring task of "designing" it would be the architect Juan Castillo, according to historical records the founding of the Monastery dates back to the medieval era in 1501.🏰🚩🙇♂️
Tribute to Vasco da Gama🙇♂️🚙/Homenaje a Vasco de Gama🏰🍍
The objective of building the Monastery by order of Manuel I was as a tribute to the great discoverer Vasco de Gama who would return successfully from his discoveries about India and other countries, according to what is believed that Vasco de Gama and his crew before leaving to "discover India "They spent a night praying in: "Ermida do Restelo" which was a Catholic chapel where the monastery would be founded in the future! I think it is one of the architectural structures that took the longest to build, it began in 1515 and lasted until the 20th century.👀🧭

"The Manueline style is characteristic for presenting late Renaissance Gothic touches" to finance this expensive structure, taxes were used that were generated from the species coming from India, starting in the 16th century a Renaissance touch was applied to the rooms where the tombs are. of King Manuel I and his entire family, a king who will never be forgotten not for his wars and conquests but for building the most important building in Portugal. And I dare say one of the most impressive in Europe!🧭🌏🌏

Inside the monastery for the first time🙇♂️🚙/Dentro del monasterio por primera vez🏰🍍

The church that was here before the monastery was founded belonged to the Christian order, they were in charge of giving aid to the sailors who sailed every day from the Tagus River, after the monastery was inaugurated between 1495-1521, it was the place of the most powerful dynasty in Portugal, the kings and their families, in order to raise this fantastic structure, King Manuel had to ask permission from the current Pope who authorized destroying the chapel to turn the place into a monastery! The Manueline style decorates beautiful structures with marine designs which represented the discoveries of Vasco de Gama in his navigations to India.🏰📚

monastery courtyard🌻🌷🙇♂️
This is the part inside the Monastery and you only have access by paying and entering the place, therefore it is quite a mystery, we will practically go up three floors all with a view of the patio that is very well decorated and with a fountain in the middle of the place, we will be able to see every detail of the architecture👀🧭

Crypt Alexandre Herculano🙇♂️🚙/Cripta Alexandre Herculano🏰🍍

We found ourselves in one of the most incredible and beautiful rooms of the Monastery and there lies a character who died at the end of the 18th century and who revolutionized the Portuguese literary field. Alexandre Herculano was one of the most important Portuguese writers. Let us remember that there were great characters in the history that they did not receive Nobel Prizes only because in those times there were no awards, but Herculaneum was deserving of one because it changed the form of human incompatibility with society.🍍📚🏰

Without a doubt it was worth waiting more than an hour to enter, the photographs inside the monastery are very beautiful, I would have liked to take more time to take much better photos but there are a lot of people and it is practically difficult to take a photo without someone appearing ! It's the only thing I didn't like about the monastery. I think the camera can handle the entries better, that is, by only accepting online purchases and selling a certain amount! However, who am I? I'm just another visitor!🏰🧭
