Day 9 of my adventure down under. It was moving day, as we left the far eastern end of the Great Australian Bight for our four hour drive back to our base home in Adelaide.
Early on, we passed the beasty north of Kingston. I hadn't noticed the appearance of a human silhouette in its mouth before. No like ness to Jack Sparrow, and not a place I'd want to venture. Fun nonetheless, and reminiscent of the quirky finds along Route 66 in the states.
Next came long stretches of highway along Coorong National Park. It's beautifully scenic, even from the other side of the road. Lots of rolling hills past pastures and vineyards, with the occasional pink sand lake and camel farm.
Just to the left lies the bight. There are occasional ute tracks to access the beaches and take in views like the pristine one you see here. We were tempted to enjoy some adult fun in the semi-isolated area, but put it off for now.
That didn't stop us from finding a local during a toilet stop. This blue-tongued skink didn't seem to mind our visit much, but wasn't keen for a petting either.
