If you are from Cebu, chances are you often hear of the beautiful and refined sandy beaches of San Remegio. Or if you are from across the seas, you may encounter several travel blogs talking about this stunning and longest shoreline of Cebu.
As San Remegio Beach is getting famous and has gained attraction over time, it's no surprise that a private and exclusive resort are sprouting like mushrooms on the coast. Though this is happy news because this means development and progress of the town, we locals who love the untouched, natural, and free public beach of this area where our children could run wild and play to their heart's content, felt an itch of sadness as our chances of enjoying this unspoiled nature for free become thinner and thinner.
On the other hand, this gives us hope and a new light of adventure of finding the remaining hidden beaches and coast that are free and undisturbed. We believe, I believe, that it's somewhere out there, tucked away in a quiet corner, lying hidden and waiting to be explored.
So finding such a kind of paradise brings pure bliss to beach lovers like us who find solace by the shore almost every week. And just like this piece of paradise we discovered in San Remegio which is hopefully not the last.
What's the name?
I honestly don't know the beach's name which I also prefer that way but I and my siblings called it the "No Trespassing Beach".
Oh, I didn't take photos at the entrance gate! Afraid to get caught.
Why "No Trespassing"? because there was an actual signage in front of the beach that says just that. So, is it a private or exclusive one? How I wish not but "Yes, and hopefully not too soon." We found this one time when we were slowly driving in the narrow streets of San Remegio with eagle eyes, keenly searching and spotting every path that hinted at leading to the coast. Then, we passed by this big gate with a bold "NO TRESPASSING" sign, pretty obvious it was private but we were surprised to see locals coming outside the gate dripping wet who seemed just to have their fresh dip in the beach! That's our cue! We entered the place too!
Paradise kept.
True to the saying that "the best sights aren't always on the grandest view but on the genuine happiness that stirs the heart", is the best I can describe this paradise we found.
The beach's landscape is simply beautiful in itself, its entrance is covered with lush green grass which seems to be taken care of. If only it had a super wide space one would think that is prepared for a gulf course. Hehe.
It may seem funny how such a simple serene view could fill our hearts and give joy to us locals. This kind of place fulfills our heart's content. Nowadays, having a place to enjoy by yourself, a place that is untouched, quiet, away from the noise, and whose beauty still shines like a hidden paradise is like finding a needle in a haystack.
The guardians.
My eyes literally grew wide in awe when I saw the towering trees lining the coast seem to be guardians of the beach. Having these trees likely planted many years ago are rare to find on the coast of San Remegio. These days, many beaches are filled with cottages, developed buildings, and a completely open space under the harsh sun. And this is the reason why I don't like these overly developed beaches.
The beach that never fails . . ,
I'd say, the beaches of San Remegio never fail to leave you in awe and the tourist who keeps coming back to these beautiful beaches would surely agree. Aside from that it is known for its longest shoreline but God has showered soft fine white sand all over these shorelines making it impossible to not return.
Also, its sea is a combination of clear blue and light green waters. But imagine having all this beauty by yourself all alone! That feeling. That feeling is what we exactly felt upon discovering and enjoying this paradise found!
This place offers a good feeling to its guests. We, the adults, enjoyed its serenity and how laidback the place is, meanwhile, the kids enjoyed the fine white sand and the endless fun on the beach.
Looking around, I noticed a few fishing boats docked on the shore which added charm and a very countryside feel. The sight brought me a sense of relief which meant that this spot wasn't completely private and exclusive just yet. We may technically be trespassers here but the local's boat being docked in front of the beach gave us hope that the owner who bought this soon-to-be beach resort has a kind heart for allowing locals to use it. Hopefully, he will forgive us too if he catches us here. Haha!
This experience was a mix of emotions blending nervousness and excitement. However, the feeling of joy and tranquility that this beach has brought us won the day, especially when we heard our kids' gleeful laughter and playful shouts giving life to this beach.
We savored every second of this moment as this may be the last time that this beach remains accessible to locals. Before we left, we made sure to leave nothing behind, not even a single piece of trash. I am deeply thankful for this unforgettable experience and this paradise found.
