Some places have a reputation that precedes them – and Monkey Bar in Berlin is one of those spots. Located on the 10th floor of the 25hours Hotel at Bikini Berlin, it promises one of the best views in the city: looking straight onto the Berlin Zoo, the monkey enclosure, and stretching out to the iconic Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church and the vibrant Ku’damm below.
I went on a Wednesday evening – maybe not the ideal time to catch the bar at its best. The drinks menu was well-curated, the cocktails creative and expertly made, and the staff kind, though clearly overwhelmed. The place was crowded – not just busy, but packed. If you don’t have a reservation, scoring a window seat becomes a bit of a hustle.
The view? Absolutely stunning. As the sun sets over the zoo and bathes the city rooftops in golden light, there’s a moment where it all feels just right.
But the vibe was off. Maybe it was midweek fatigue, maybe the noise level, or just the feeling of too many people in too little space. I had higher expectations – more of a chill lounge feel, more upbeat energy, more Berlin cool.
Was the evening a waste? No. But it also wasn’t a highlight. Monkey Bar remains a solid sunset spot – but next time I’ll try it on a Friday or Saturday, when the atmosphere might better match the promise.

Monkey Bar Berlin – Aussicht top, Stimmung naja
Manche Orte haben einen Ruf, der ihnen voraus eilt – die Monkey Bar im 10. Stock des 25hours Hotels in Berlin gehört definitiv dazu. Hoch über dem Bikini-Haus gelegen, bietet sie einen der berühmtesten Ausblicke der Stadt: direkt auf den Berliner Zoo, das Affenhaus und weiter bis zur Gedächtniskirche und dem Ku'damm. Eine Bar mit Skyline-Feeling mitten in der City West.
Ich war an einem Mittwochabend dort – vielleicht nicht der beste Tag für Stimmung. Die Bar war gut sortiert, die Auswahl an Cocktails kreativ und solide, das Personal freundlich, aber merklich unter Druck: Es war voll. Nicht nur gut besucht, sondern richtig überfüllt. Wer keinen Tisch reserviert hat, muss sich einen Platz am Fenster regelrecht erkämpfen.
Der Ausblick? Grandios. Ohne Zweifel das Highlight des Abends. Wenn die Sonne langsam hinter dem Zoo untergeht und die Dächer Berlins in goldenes Licht taucht, fühlt man für einen Moment, dass man am richtigen Ort ist.
Aber die Stimmung war durchwachsen. Vielleicht lag es an der Mitte-der-Woche-Müdigkeit der Gäste, vielleicht an der Lautstärke oder einfach daran, dass zu viele Menschen auf zu engem Raum waren. Ich hatte mir etwas mehr erwartet – ein bisschen mehr Leichtigkeit, mehr Lounge-Atmosphäre, mehr Urban Vibes.
War es ein verschwendeter Abend? Nein. Aber es war auch kein unvergesslicher. Die Monkey Bar bleibt ein guter Spot für den Sonnenuntergang – aber vielleicht beim nächsten Mal lieber an einem Freitag oder Samstag, wenn Musik, Energie und Stimmung besser zusammenfinden.
