While returning from Udaipur, we decided to stop at Jaisamand Lake for some time, and it turned out to be the best part of our journey. The lake is a calm and peaceful place, surrounded by nature's beauty. As soon as we reached, we felt like we had entered a completely different world, away from all the noise and chaos.
The cool breeze and the soft sound of water were so relaxing. We sat near the lake for a while, just enjoying the view. The birds chirping and the sight of fish playing in the water made everything even more special. The greenery around the lake and the sunset made the whole scene magical.
Interesting Facts About Jaisamand Lake
Jaisamand Lake is famous for being the second-largest artificial lake in Asia. It was once the largest until the construction of the Aswan Dam in Egypt. Located about 48 kilometers from Udaipur, it is also known as Dhebar Lake. It was built in 1685 by Maharana Jai Singh when he constructed a dam on the Gomti River.
The lake covers an area of 36 square kilometers, with a length of 14 kilometers and a width of 9 kilometers. The massive dam has a Shiva temple at its center, adding to its charm. The lake also has six beautifully carved marble cenotaphs along its banks.
What Makes Jaisamand Lake Special
The lake has seven islands, one of which is still home to the Bhil Mina tribe. Marble steps lead down to the water, making it a perfect spot for a boat ride. The summer palace of the queens near the lake adds to its beauty.
Close to the lake is the Jaisamand Wildlife Sanctuary, which is home to various animals like panthers, leopards, deer, wild boars, crocodiles, and many species of birds. This makes the lake and its surroundings even more special for nature lovers.
