My first time at Hersheypark (kinda)
This past weekend I finally got the chance to visit my brother Chez in Lancaster, PA. I hadn't seen him since Christmas, which is nearly 6 months. It was long overdue and luckily I was able to stay for the entire weekend. @flowerbaby and I arrived late Friday night and didn't have to leave until Monday afternoon. We were greeted by Chez's fiance Kristian and hung out with her, Littleton (the Daschund), and Nala (the Chow Chow).
While visiting my brother, we got into a lot of fun things. The weekend really began with Saturday morning's adventure. We were headed to Hersheypark, which is less than an hour from where he lives. I had been to the Hershey museum before, but never to the theme park. I had heard a lot of great things about the place, some of that came from Chez and Kristian. The tickets were $50 each and came with access to the amusement park, water park, zoo, and museum. There was quite a long list of things for us to do, our main objectives were the big roller coasters and water park. Continue reading to find out what we were able to experience.
The lines were dreadful
I must start by saying Hersheypark was absolutely packed. This was only the second time that I have been to an amusement park since COVID. The last place I went to was Kennywood nearly a year ago. Back then everyone was still timid to go out and do things, and we were forced to wear masks the entire time. The lines were not bad at all then, but many rides were shut down. This time around, there was no mask mandate. I also only noticed one ride being down for maintenance, so it left us with plenty to do and be happy about.
Sadly so many other people had the same idea as us to go to the park that day. I had never purchased a fast pass in my life, but right away I wished I had done so. I tried to keep denying it, but when I saw the first coaster was a 2 hour wait, I was devastated. We passed by that ride in search of lockers for our backpacks. We had to walk quite a bit before we found some that were actually available. Once we finally put our belongings away, we headed back towards the front to get fast passes.
More shitty news... The price of fast passes was $150 per person. We were told that the cost had increased due to demand. That didn't seem at all fair to me, so we all refused to pay for the upgrade. This was after we waited in a long ass line to find out how much it would be.
After scattering away from the customer service window, we got in our first line. It was for Candy Monium, which looked to be the newest coaster in the park. We waited damn near 2 hours before we finally got to ride it. It was only a couple of minutes long, but holy hell was it worth it. The ride was so fast and unpredictable. As you can see from the image below, we were all joyous to finally ride this bad boy.
Fuck you Hershey, I ain't paying for no photograph. Good luck stopping me.
I finally got a turkey leg
I probably sound like I didn't have a blast at Hersheypark, but trust me when I say that is not the case at all. I was so happy to finally see my brother, that alone made it a great time. Plus I was finally able to find myself a nice juicy turkey leg. When we went to the Renaissance Festival, they were sold out of turkey legs. This left me with no choice but to go with the smaller chicken legs during the festival. I had only ever had one other giant turkey leg in my lifetime, and that was back at Disney World nearly 20 years ago. I was freaking ecstatic to finally sink my teeth into one of these mammoth meat sticks at Hersheypark.
Monumental sweets
As one may assume, Hersheypark is filled with all sorts of sweet treats. We really didn't buy anything chocolate-related. I think @flowerbaby was a bit upset that she didn't get some fudge. At least we got these awesome photos with the cool statues just out front of the park. There were so many great photo opportunities, but we were all so sweaty and tired that we didn't take many photographs besides these.
Chocolate rage
So here is a quick funny story. This kid made it into one of our photos. He seemed to have an anger problem, perhaps even autistic. I cannot be certain what his deal was, but I can for sure say that he made an impression on us all. He dropped something inside of the trash can by accident and absolutely blew up over it. He screamed so loud that everyone around couldn't help but stare. This happened as we were leaving the park. It was a funny way to finish our long day at Hersheypark. I can remember struggling to control my anger as a child. Good thing I eventually learned to control the fire within.
Tröegs Independent Brewing
After we left, we made our way down the road to a local brewery. This place was pretty unique. I think it was the fanciest brewery that I have ever been to. The building was freaking huge and they even had a nice gift shop with some cool merch. There was outdoor and indoor seating consisting of two floors on the inside with multiple bars. The way you ordered food was a bit odd. We didn't have a waiter, instead, you had to wait in another long line to order at a window.
@flowerbaby and I had just eaten our turkey legs, so we weren't hungry. I drank a couple of pints while we waited on Chez and Kristian. This of course put me in a great mood, despite being totally exhausted. This place made our brewery back home in WV seem so tiny. I'm glad I can say that I've been to Tröegs.
Thanks for checking out my blog 😎🤝
Although Hersheypark wasn't as good as I thought it would be, it was still pretty great. I say it wasn't as good as I expected, because I never thought there would be so many people packed in there. I was pleasantly surprised by how fun the rides looked. This place had so many awesome roller coasters, but all of the lines were so long. I would love to go back sometime when it is not as busy. The waterpark would surely be worth the time, as well as the many roller coasters that we missed out on. I think we only rode 4 rides total. I'm not sour about it, I got to spend the entire day with Chez, Kristian, and @flowerbaby. I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.
