Hace unos días mi hija me invitó a caminar por un sendero que queda cerca del lugar donde vive en Torredembarra- España. Ya conocía el sendero, pues por allí hago mi caminata diaria,

A few days ago, my daughter invited me to walk along a trail near where she lives in Torredembarra, Spain. I already knew the trail, as I walk there every day.

Es un recorrido plano y corto que se hace aproximadamente en 40 minutos poniendo como límite una carretera que le pone fin al tramo, sin embargo, ese día se volvió especial, les comento.

It is a flat, short route that takes about 40 minutes to complete, ending at a road that marks the end of the trail. However, that day turned out to be special, as I will explain.

Cuando llegamos al borde de la carretera me invitó a cruzarla y que siguiéramos caminando hacia una caballeriza que había al otro lado, seguimos andando y en un aviso señalaba la ruta hacia un castillo, le pregunté y me aclaró que no lo conocía, que pertenecía al pueblo de al lado, que si quería caminábamos hasta allá, buscó en su teléfono y señalaba que eran cuatro kilómetros y medio.

When we reached the edge of the road, she invited me to cross it and continue walking toward a stable on the other side. We kept walking, and a sign pointed the way to a castle. I asked her about it, and she explained that she didn't know it, that it belonged to the next town, and that if I wanted, we could walk there. She looked it up on her phone and said it was four and a half kilometers away.

Me ilusiona la idea de los castillos, de conocer lugares con historia, así que me animé y seguimos andando. El pueblo al que nos dirigimos se llama Creixell y pertenece a la provincia de Tarragona.

Llegamos al pueblo entrando por una urbanización, a nuestro paso encontramos jóvenes jugando en una cancha, y más adelante un grupo de familias jugando petanca o bochas, un juego similar al que nosotros, en Venezuela, conocemos como bolas criollas. Las personas allí presentes no tuvieron problemas para que les tomara unas fotos.

I love the idea of castles and visiting places with history, so I agreed and we kept walking. The town we were heading to is called Creixell and is in the province of Tarragona.

We arrived at the village through a residential area, passing young people playing on a court and, further on, a group of families playing petanque or bocce, a game similar to what we know in Venezuela as bolas criollas. The people there had no problem with me taking their photos.

Es un juego muy popular, pues en cada pueblo que he visitado, veo las canchas y cuando baja el sol, a las familias reunidas, jugando.

It is a very popular game, because in every town I have visited, I see the courts and, when the sun goes down, families gathered together playing.

Seguimos nuestro ascenso urbano buscando el castillo y así llegamos al casco antiguo donde está. Antes de rodearlo nos detuvimos en la rambla que es una caminaría larga y ancha, en uno de sus extremos hay un hermosa pérgola con un mural al fondo en homenaje a las mujeres, resaltando la imagen de Frida kahlo.

We continued our urban ascent in search of the castle and thus arrived at the old town where it is located. Before walking around it, we stopped at the rambla, which is a long, wide walkway. At one end, there is a beautiful pergola with a mural in the background paying tribute to women, highlighting the image of Frida Kahlo.

Ya dispuestas a acercarnos al castillo se nos acercó un amable señor que se ofreció a guiarnos en el resto del recorrido. Fue muy oportuno, pues nos relató que este era uno de los castillos más conservados de España y que actualmente está habitado, quizás por eso sus ventanas están modernizadas y posiblemente por dentro haya tenido muchas modificaciones. Se encuentra literalmente pegado a la iglesia y ambas estructuras datan del siglo XIII.

As we were about to approach the castle, a friendly gentleman approached us and offered to guide us on the rest of the tour. It was very timely, as he told us that this was one of the best-preserved castles in Spain and that it is currently inhabited, which is perhaps why its windows have been modernized and it has likely undergone many modifications inside. It is literally attached to the church, and both structures date back to the 13th century.

Luego de este recorrido, se ofreció guiarnos al mirador, lugar que no estaba en nuestro plan, con gusto aceptamos, estaba a poca distancia, ya llegando, apareció este pintoresco transporte interno que acerca a turistas y lugareños al sitio.

After this tour, he offered to guide us to the viewpoint, a place that was not in our plan, and we gladly accepted. It was a short distance away, and as we arrived, this picturesque internal transport appeared, which brings tourists and locals to the site.

Aquí es oportuno resaltar que el pueblo no cuenta con transporte público, que los trenes no tienen estación allí, solo un autobús que para dos veces al día dificultando mucho su acceso. Mi hija me comentaba que le gustaba el pueblo y que los alquileres eran mucho más económicos que en Torredembarra, lugar donde vive, pero que el transporte era una gran limitante.

It is worth noting that the town has no public transportation, no train station, and only one bus that stops twice a day, making access very difficult. My daughter told me that she liked the town and that rents were much cheaper than in Torredembarra, where she lives, but that transportation was a major limitation.

Siguiendo el paseo, accedimos al mirador, un espacio muy agradable, fresco y acogedor, que al acercarnos a la baranda ofrece un bellísimo espectáculo, la ciudad a sus pies y el mar que se abre en su inmensidad.

Continuing along the walk, we reached the viewpoint, a very pleasant, cool, and welcoming spot, which, as we approached the railing, offered a beautiful spectacle: the city at our feet and the sea stretching out in all its immensity.

Disfrutamos de la vista un rato antes de comenzar el descenso y la vuelta a casa. Recorrido que realizamos no por los caminos verdes por donde llegamos sino que nos fuimos bordeando la carretera nacional.

Ya para cerrar les comento que fue un paseo hermoso, lleno de curiosidades y de conversación amena con mi hija, conversaciones que extraño mucho cuando la tengo lejos y que disfruto a plenitud cuando la tengo cerca.

We enjoyed the view for a while before beginning the descent and returning home. We did not take the same green paths we had taken to get there, but instead skirted the national highway.

To conclude, I would like to say that it was a beautiful walk, full of curiosities and pleasant conversation with my daughter, conversations that I miss very much when she is far away and that I enjoy to the fullest when she is near.
