"Die Hel" literally translates from Afrikaans to The Hell. It is a very small valley found in the Swartberg mountains in South Africa. The only road that leads down to the tiny town is an incredibly long and narrow... only fitting one car at a time, so you better hope not to come head to head with another car.
I honestly spent the entire drive down panicking that we were going to fall off the edge of the mountain but luckily I live to tell the tale, we made it there and back in one piece.
The town itself has a campsite and other accommodation to stay at but we stayed over for only an hour or so before leaving. I found the place so incredibly eerie and strange, weirdly it was incredibly hot... in hell!
We found the strangest goodies scattered around the town!
We didn't see too many people, which made the whole place feel like a ghost town... we did run into some gorgeous peacocks though.
So even though the road to hell is actual hell... I highly recommend a visit. The view on the drive, of the mountain ranges and nature is incredibly beautiful and something worth seeing!
