Hello Pinmapplers! Let's continue in Chicago, the windy city. But this time let's have fun a bit!
We continue walking around Chicago, we have already raised our eyes and our heads to see the impressive buildings of the city, with perspective admiring the fascinating skyline, from up close walking around and from inside, going up one of the skyscrapers and enjoying the amazing perspective, a bit dizzying!
But we stopped to enjoy a bit of nature while continuing to be amazed by the design in Millennium Park, where everything merges into a harmonious symbiosis, a green park and more modern buildings. Architecture at the service of the environment and the citizens who enjoy it.
And why not continue enjoying pleasantly? Now we are going to have fun in another park, but it is not a natural park but an amusement park. The typical park with its characteristic large Ferris wheel is the famous Navy Pier.
It is probably called that way because it is located on the edge of Lake Michigan itself, always making this city an even more spectacular place. So we left the classic tourist visits for a moment to let ourselves go for a while, and simply have a good time.
And at Navy Pier, as soon as we go up the stairs at the entrance, we see happy people enjoying the different attractions, the different pavilions with games, shops and restaurants. And above all there is the Ferris wheel, which is not only the classic symbol of a park like these, but here it also becomes an essential and unmistakable piece of the Chicago skyline. Nothing like that.
But there is more, almost the best thing about it is that throughout the park, on the one hand, we find different types of boats, for a little while plowing through the waters of that immense lake, which looks like a sea because we get lost on the horizon without seeing anything else. What a beautiful blue water, the sensation is strange but great, and we want to get on one of those boats, small historical ships or launches and start sailing.
There are different types and sizes, but to add excitement to the moment we chose the ultra-fast boat. We bet big. The driver tells us that we have to put on the restraints and the vest because the trip is going to be powerful. And ahead here we go.
And we are almost jumping over the water, almost without touching it, everything splashes high and strong around us and the drops get to wet our faces that only feel the speed, and the wind against our skin. What a feeling!
All combined with impressive views of the city, again, our admiration. Those views that we can only photograph when the boat pauses, in the stillness then we dare to put our hand in our bag to take out our cell phone or camera and enjoy assimilating what we are seeing and experiencing.
We see the entire park, Navy Pier, with its large circular pavilion of curious architecture, which stands out or contrasts with the darker skyscrapers that appear behind. Because those buildings always appear in the photo.
Along the coast we continue to see them further, more tall buildings that look at the lake almost with envy but at the same time with pride of being there, being observed, being one of the characteristic and iconic elements of Chicago.
We return to earth, we step on reality and we get hungry. Do you remember the movie Forrest Gump? And the one who always talked about prawns? Well, that chain of restaurants that they created that appeared in the movie “Bubba Gump” restaurant later became a reality after its success, and yes, it is an American food chain, and there is one here at Navy Pier. We have to try and taste the menu!
Prawns of course, battered, with chips and sauce as a sides. Simple and typical dishes, surrounded by a decoration that reminds us of the movie, although I must say that the prices are somewhat expensive for the quantity and quality, compared to other places, but I imagine that the cinematographic name is also paid for in the experience .
We have to take another walk around here. It is true that it is more enjoyable on a sunny day, but I was able to come different times and even on gray, cold and windy days, you see happy people walking with their pink cotton candy or queuing for one of the boats. I suppose that on the worst days they will take a break, but if the sun comes out, it's perfect to have a little fun in a relaxed, colorful and exciting environment (if you take the ultra-fast boat haha).
We left disheveled, satiated and happy, for the experience and for having enjoyed another of the essential places in the most spectacular and photogenic city, Chicago. And there will be more, there are still impressive things, it is incredible.
Fall in love with Chicago, you'll see more...
