San Antonio Zoo is one of the finest learning environments in South Texas, especially for young kids and those kids at heart like me. With a variety of animals for people to encounter, it was indeed a great and memorable experience for me to see animals that I can only see in books, encyclopedias, and documentaries on TV. The kids will surely love it because of the close encounter that they will have with some animals in the zoo.
You will see different kinds of animals, and one of them is reptiles like snakes. From the biggest to the smallest, and snakes with different colors. If you fear snakes, don’t worry because they are in a secure and closed space just for the people to look at. That green snake in the picture fascinates me a lot. I was surprised to see that, because it seems like it camouflages the tree and the leaves. I just realized that it was a snake when it started moving, and I saw the head moving as well.
We went to a big aquarium with colorful kinds of fish. It was so calming and relaxing to see beautiful fish swim, and when you go near the aquarium, they will come near you as if they are communicating and want to take a picture with you too. I loved to see those two hippopotamuses underwater, sleeping. I never knew that hippos could even stay underwater for a long time.
Seeing the Rhinoceros up close was the best part of it. I never expected to see rare and extinct animals in my life. I had the privilege to see that they have thick skin and horns, a sight to behold. It’s just sad to know that Rhinos are killed by poachers for their horns, which can be sold for high prices; that’s why Rhinos are now considered an endangered species.
Seeing animals that I can only see in books and encyclopedias made me realize that learning never stops in school. Learning should be every day, just by living and enjoying our lives is already a way of learning. Getting older never stops a person from going to the zoo. Zoos are not only for kids but for us kids at heart, too. I had a great time and enjoyed coming here, especially since I was with my husband. These memories will always remain in our hearts, since we got to experience being kids again.
