✨ “Teocuitatlán” viene del náhuatl y se traduce como:
"Lugar del oro de los dioses"
(de teotl = dios, cuitlatl = oro, tlan = lugar).
Los antiguos mexicas llamaban al oro “el excremento divino”, porque lo veían como un regalo de los dioses del sol.

"Place of the gods' gold"
(from teotl = god, cuitlatl = gold, tlan = place).
The ancient Mexica referred to gold as "the divine excrement", because they saw it as a gift from the sun gods.
🦣 Hubo mamuts aquí, se pueden apreciar algunos huesos en el museo. Encontrados alrededor del municipio, especialmente en La Cofradía y partes del valle.
En 1525, los frailes franciscanos llegaron al lugar y fundaron oficialmente el poblado, convirtiendo la región en un centro de evangelización y agricultura. La zona ya estaba habitada por indígenas que hablaban náhuatl y otros dialectos.
Mí familia materna y paterna vivieron aquí, muchos en el pueblo son Sahagún (aunque el apellido si es español). Yo viví mi infancia aquí hasta los 8 años.
🦣There were mammoths here, and some of their bones can still be seen at the local museum. These remains were found around the municipality, especially in La Cofradía and parts of the valley.
In 1525, Franciscan friars arrived and officially founded the town, turning the region into a center of evangelization and agriculture. The area was already inhabited by indigenous people who spoke Nahuatl and other native languages.
Both my maternal and paternal families lived here — many people in the town share the last name Sahagún (even though the surname itself is Spanish). I spent my childhood here until the age of 8.

El Templo de San Miguel Arcángel, tiene más de 300 años ⛪ Fue construido en el siglo XVII. Es el corazón del pueblo y escenario de las fiestas patronales más esperadas del año. 15 días en septiembre y casi todo el mes de diciembre, es cuando se arma bueno en guateque 😁
The Temple of Saint Michael the Archangel ⛪ is over 300 years old. It was built in the 17th century and is the heart of the town, especially during the most anticipated festivities of the year.
For 15 days in September and almost the entire month of December, the town lights up with celebration — that’s when the real "guateque" (party) happens! 😁
