Greetings everyone!
Welcome back to another edition of #KeepExploring. In these post I'll try to take you with me on my journey around the island Curacao.
I personally get a lot of positive energy from exploring so who knows I might inspire you to do the same in your country 🤞🏾🤞🏾🤞🏾.
San Juan
This time I'm talking you back to the San Juan are of Curaçao. It's on the west side of the island knows as Bandabou. Bandabou has the more natural beaches so it's my go to if I really want to explore.
So a bit of background, there used to be a lot of plantations on Curacao. It used to be a trade hub for the Dutch and a lot of slaves got to Curaçao first before the got seperated and sent to the other colonies.
A lot of them remained to work on the local plantations. Almost every plantation is marked by a "Landhuis" which is the big house in which the plantation owners stayed.
Over time these houses were preserved and ended up in the hands of local (or Dutch) families. Some of them have been turned into museums/restaurants/hotels and other are currently available to rent (in case you have a big event or a wedding).... Those are the well preserved ones.
Landhuis San Juan is not so lucky. It's still standing but it's obviously abandoned and in decay.
And even though it must have an interesting story, on that day I was more interesting in the secrets of the land.
You see behind Landhuis San Juan are a couple of hidden beaches. Beaches that are off the beaten path. Beaches I frankly never even heard of in all my years here.
There is a dirt road that leads you to about 4 different beaches along the south coast.....
Picture being completely alone.. Sipping on your drinks and taking a swim...
Heaven I tell you!
And ofcourse I went nuts with my drone to TRULY explore the area!
