If you follow me here at Hive, you probably already know that I love to be in the middle of nature! In all the places I have visited and lived on this planet, hiking has always been a priority and I believe I have seen many paradisiacal places in this world.
However, few places have impressed me as much as the Oyster Valley, here in Brazil. Located in Eldorado, a small town in the interior of São Paulo state, the Oyster Valley is a 10 kilometer long trail with no less than 12 incredible waterfalls! Yes, incredible! They all have crystal clear turquoise water. I must say that one is more beautiful than the other...

Em todos os lugares que visitei e morei nesse planeta, fazer trilhas sempre foi uma prioridade e acredito que já vi muitos lugares paradisíacos neste mundo. Porém, poucos lugares me deixaram tão impressionada como o Vale das Ostras, aqui no Brasil. Localizado em Eldorado, uma pequena cidade do interior de São Paulo, o Vale das Ostras é uma trilha com aproximadamente 10 quilômetros de extensão e nada menos do que 12 cachoeiras incríveis! Sim, incríveis! Todas elas possuem água cristalina e turquesa. Devo dizer que uma é mais bonita do que a outra…
As it could not be otherwise, the end of the trail holds a surprise. The famous "Cachoeira do Meu Deus!" takes its name precisely because when you see it, you will probably sigh: my god! It is considered one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the state of São Paulo and is 53 meters high. More than giant in beauty, it is also giant in size, with a breathtaking fall!

Como não poderia ser diferente, o final da trilha reserva uma surpresa. A famosa “Cachoeira do Meu Deus!” que leva esse nome justamente porque ao vê-la, provavelmente você vai suspirar: meu deus! Ela é considerada uma das cachoeiras mais bonitas do estado de São Paulo e possui 53 metros de altura. Mais do que gigante na beleza, ela também é gigante no tamanho, com uma queda de tirar o fôlego! How to get there?
The Oyster Valley is very close to Petar, but it is not part of the park. As it is located inside a private property, visitors must pay the entrance fee (about US $10.00) and be accompanied by an accredited guide, who will also charge for the tour.
It is worth noting that many agencies that conduct tours inside Petar include the Oyster Valley in their itinerary. Therefore, it is very easy to find guides that will take you there.
O Vale das Ostras fica bem próximo ao Petar, porém não faz parte do parque. Como ele está localizado dentro de uma propriedade particular, é preciso que os visitantes paguem a entrada (cerca de US $10,00) e estejam acompanhados de um guia credenciado, que também cobrará pelo passeio. Vale destacar que inúmeras agências que realizam passeios dentro do Petar incluem o Vale das Ostras no roteiro. Portanto, é muito fácil encontrar guias que te levem até o local.
Why Oysters Valley?
The Oyster Valley, as the name implies, is a valley far from the sea. So, you may ask: but what about the oysters?
The name of the place comes from the sambaquis found in the region. Sambaquis are prehistoric formations found on the coast of Brazil and studied by many geologists and archaeologists here. Some of these researchers say that they are about 7 to 8 thousand years old and are a kind of cemetery, where besides human bones, stone objects, animal bones and especially shells are found.
In some places, the sambaquis are real mountains.In the case of the Oyster Valley, not only bones, but also many shells have been found there, which look like oyster shells. This is why the region got its name.
O Vale das Ostras, como o próprio nome já diz, é um vale que fica bem longe do mar. Então, fica a pergunta: mas e as ostras? O nome do lugar se dá em razão dos sambaquis encontrados na região. Sambaquis são formações pré-históricas encontradas na costa do Brasil e estudadas por muitos geólogos e arqueólogos daqui. Alguns desses pesquisadores afirmam que eles têm cerca de 7 a 8 mil anos e são uma espécie de cemitério, onde além de ossadas humanas, são encontrados objetos de pedra, ossos de animais e principalmente conchas. Em alguns locais, os sambaquis são verdadeiras montanhas. No caso do Vale das Ostras foram encontrados não somente ossadas, como muitas conchas por lá, que se parecem com conchas de ostras. Por essa razão, a região ganhou esse nome.

The Oyster Valley Trail
The trail is very short, has some steep sections and is considered of medium difficulty. It is essential to wear appropriate footwear, because it can be very slippery, as in some parts we pass by rivers and waterfalls.
It is also essential to be prepared to get wet! All the waterfalls are an invitation for an invigorating swim. I, particularly, went in all of them!
A trilha é bem curtinha, possui alguns trechos íngremes e é considerada de média dificuldade. É fundamental usar calçados apropriados, pois ela pode ser bem escorregadia, já que em alguns trechos passamos por rios e pelas cachoeiras.
Também é fundamental estar preparado para se molhar! Todas as cachoeiras são um convite a um mergulho revigorante. Eu, particularmente, entrei em todas!

Besides the waterfalls, during the trail it is possible to find a number of very different mushrooms, butterflies, and many insects.
Além das cachoeiras, durante a trilha é possível encontrar uma série de cogumelos bem diferentes, borboletas e muitos insetos.

Yes, the waterfall of Meu deus is a spectacle in itself! Even though it has a gigantic fall, when the flow is not high, it is possible to enter inside the fall, where there is a small cave.
To achieve this feat, you need to hold on to a rope and walk through the water on your back, beside a cliff. It was one of the greatest adventures of my life, but without a doubt, it was worth it.

Sim, a cachoeira do Meu deus é um espetáculo à parte! Mesmo tendo uma queda gigantesca, quando a vazão não está alta, é possível entrar dentro da queda, onde fica uma pequena gruta. Para conseguir essa proeza, você precisa seguir segurando uma corda e caminhar pela água de costas, ao lado de um penhasco. Foi uma das maiores aventuras da minha vida, mas sem dúvida, valeu muito a pena. Espero que tenham apreciado esse pedacinho do paraíso e tenham gostado dessa aventura! Nos vemos na próxima?
