This is the 18th post of the Manali Leh Highway series, in the previous posts of this series you have read about Himalayan Shepherds, Life of Changpa Tribe, Himalayan Rickshaw Run, Lahaul Valley, Maure Plains Tanglang La, Naki La, Leh, Rohtang Pass, Lahaul Valley, Maure Plains Experience spectacular views of the stormy landscapes, towering mountain peaks and highway landscapes and learn about this colorful land. Today in this series, we will learn about the third mountain pass ‘Naki La’ located on Manali Leh Highway.
There is a mountain pass 15547 feet high which is surrounded by Gata Loops on one side and Lachuchungla on the other side. About 220 km from Manali, this pass is always ready to test the tourists. There is no grass here, no tree here, no village here, no mobile network and no electricity, moreover this place remains closed for almost 6 months in winter.
The more beautiful the landscapes here, the more dangerous it can be to spend time here. At such a height, 8 out of 10 people have acute mountain sickness, in this altitude sickness, people have problems in breathing, bleeding from the nose, hallucinations, headache, upset stomach, loss of appetite and thirst, and Sometimes cramps also start in the body. It has been seen many times on this highway that people who suffer from such symptoms have to lose their lives. Every year the news of many people dying of acute mountain sickness is heard in the news.
Every year I go to this highway and looking at the landscapes here, I wonder whether an atomic bomb was ever exploded here, the condition here is like this, completely desolate. Of course, seeing the mountains of beige color gives relief to the eyes, but when there is a problem in breathing, then it is understood that the landscape here is as captivating as it is deadly.
