Greetings Community!
After a night halt in Fresberg, we started our journey toward Balestrand via Hemsedal
On the road, it was very beautiful nature where we took many stops, from place to place, but I was mad to take photos from a running car.
The camping place where we spent our night.
The rain, fog, and mist surrounded us, creating a mystical atmosphere.
As well, those small rivers we crossed were flowing vigorously.
The Tunhovd dam is a beautiful attraction, but we stopped few minutes. We weren't the main power station because of the rain and the time schedule.
We passed through Nesbyen, which is also a big hydro energy center.
Enjoying the beautiful view of nature, we didn't realise when we passed through Hemsedal center. But after a few kilometers' drive, we saw a sign indicating an attraction.
We stopped the car at roadside, but it is not visible from the road. After looked here and there we found a designated stopping area along Hemsedalveien and moved our car for parking. Saw a small sign indicating Rjukandefossen, which can also be spelled Rjukanfossen. From the parking it's about a 200-meter walk along a forest path to the waterfall. There is a well-marked path to the waterfall,
The waterfall showcases a segmented ponytail design with a total drop height of 18 meters. It produces a significant amount of water, especially during the snowmelt season, and we visited at the perfect time to witness this. The name of the waterfall is derived from the mist it creates, which resembles smoke. it was very empressive.
Hiking trail from the main road to the waterfall – just a few hundred meters to walk!
There is a well-marked trail to the waterfall through dense forest, with both a gravel road and stairs to reach the waterfall.
place to place small safety wooden supportive walls also made around that protect visitors from slippery paths,it was good help to hold those like a railing, when we walk on a slippery path around the waterfall
There is a thin and wobbly bridge that takes you across the gorge. It didn't look particularly safe,
3 planks were the entire bridge,It is not advice to cross,it was enough to give me butterflies in my stomach, and it was with a mixture of fear and joy. I tried to make it cross over, but was worried when my husband tried it because he is a big guy. Because of the rain, the path was slippery were very careful to go around. the short walk over the gushing water in the gorge below us. But it held us, the bridge is still there and still hanging there safely, so you can try your hand at a walk across the gorge.
Rjukandefoss falls into a narrow gorge before the water flows further down into the Hemsila River towards Hemsedal.
After that magical nature we were on road towards to balestrand enjoying the nice mistical weather and mountains lush greenary. we came across the Bygdetun Stave church.Which listed in UNESCO's world heritage.
From Borlo Bygdetun, it is only a short drive to Borgund Stave Church from the 1150-1200s. Borgund Stave Church is considered the best preserved of all the Norwegian stave churches. This is a popular stop for tourists and a modern tourist center has been built next to the church, where you can park your car and learn more about the history behind the church building. Borgund Stave Church is considered the best preserved stave church in the country.
Right next to Borgund Stave Church is Vindhellevegen – an engineering feat from the 19th century with a stretch of road that winds up the mountain ended for horse and carriage. Just behind the church, there is a path that takes you up to the remains of this road, Vindhellevegen.
But you need entrance ticket,to enter the area and follow the path.
We haven't bought tickets. My interest is in seeing the architecture, not in a religious visit. I saw whatever was possible, then returned to the tourist building it kind of museum where they share many stories about the church's history.
After spending some time, watching the movie about the church history, we moved further to our next destination.
Thank you.
