Yes,the limestone cliffs of Elnido was once just a coral reef underwater formed 250 years ago. We visited this paradise as part of the island hopping we avail on the second day of our stay on Palawan.
This was us enjoying our kayak together on the deep blue water of big lagoon
This limestone cliffs are corals in the past - wife for scale
How to get here:
This place is actually located in the Philippines, and if you are coming from Metro Manila, you need to book a flight going straight to Elnido Palawan or you can book a cheaper flight to Puerto Princesa but this will have a 6 hour land travel before you reach the town of Elnido. You need to avail also an island hopping activity to be able to reach the Big Lagoon as this is part of the tour
Island tour Day
Upon settling at Elnido and during our 2nd day, we avail Tour C which includes visiting different locations:
- Big Lagoon
- Shimizu Island
- 7 Commando beach
- Secret Lagoon
- Payong Payong Island
Luckily the weather is good so it was a good day to start our island hopping
Our first destination is 7 commando beach, this is just a normal beach but the sand is good and this is where we practice using our snorkeling gear. We also just take some photos and enjoy the view
Us taking picture on this man made welcome signage on the island
Then after that, we head to Big lagoon, this take some time to travel but then again who would not enjoy the trip when your view is like this and the water is so blue
To go to the big lagoon, you need to rent for a kayak for 6$, there are 2 parts of the big lagoon, the shallow one where you can take pictures and take a bath
*And the more bluer and deeper part of the lagoon, its more peaceful in this area and the water is so enticing to plunge into.
Luckily there are only few visitors on the lagoon so we almost have the place to our selves
*After that, we proceed to our 3rd destination where we have our lunch, the food is part of the Tour package so you don't need to worry about your food on the island. You can eat all you want :) *
I will have a separate post about the snorkeling and the secret lagoon but overall I did enjoy our whole tour.
