Paula Avenue, a space adorned by sea and architecture [eng/spa]

Sunrise is one of the most spectacular moments of the day, and if you enjoy it from the Paula Avenue, the pleasure is multiplied. I am fortunate enough to frequent this area for work, and I never miss the opportunity to observe it closely. Today I decided to do something different, take out my phone to take some pictures and share with all travel lovers, why I like so much this space in Havana.
Despite the fact that this area is very busy, I have to admit that the place transmits quite peace, so it is not surprising that it is a place of confluence of lovers, because it also offers a fantastic view of the Havana Malecon and its play of waves. So, the sensations transmitted by the mall would be the number 1 reason to visit it.

El amanecer es uno de los momentos más espectaculares del día, y si se disfruta desde la Alameda de Paula, el placer se multiplica. Yo tengo la fortuna de frecuentar esta zona por asuntos de trabajo, y nunca pierdo la oportunidad de observarla con detenimiento. Hoy decidí hacer algo diferente, sacar mi teléfono para captar algunas fotos y compartir con todos los amantes de los viajes, por qué me gusta tanto este espacio habanero.
A pesar de que esa zona es muy transitada, tengo que admitir que el lugar transmite bastante paz, así que no es de extrañar que sea un sitio de confluencia de enamorados, porque además ofrece una vista fantástica del Malecón habanero y su juego de olas. Entonces, las sensaciones que transmite la alameda serían la razón 1 para visitarla.

I really like to know the history of places, so I tell you that the promenade was the first promenade that the city had, and its impact was positive at a social level because in the area where it was built, it was previously one of the largest garbage dumps in Havana. Initially, the promenade was filled with many trees and two strips of benches, so families came to stroll, chat and enjoy the environment. As time went by, it became not only a place for recreation, but also a meeting point for artists and intellectuals.
The avenue owes its name to the nearby church: the church of Paula, which has been declared a national monument, and has a facade with an impressive architecture.

Me gusta mucho conocer la historia de los lugares, así que les cuento que la alameda fue el primer paseo marítimo que tuvo la ciudad, y su impacto fue positivo a nivel social pues en la zona donde se construyó, anteriormente constituía uno de los basureros más grandes de La Habana. Inicialmente, la alameda estuvo llena de muchos árboles y dos franjas de bancos, por lo que las familias llegaban para pasear, charlar y disfrutar del ambiente. Con el paso del tiempo, no solo se convirtió en un lugar de esparcimiento, sino también en un punto de encuentro para artistas e intelectuales.
La alameda debe su nombre a la iglesia que se encuentra muy cercana: la iglesia de Paula, la cual ha sido declarada monumento nacional, y tiene una fachada con una arquitectura impresionante.

Several years ago, when Old Havana was listed as a World Heritage Site, the Office of the Historian took charge of renovating the mall and improving this charming space that we enjoy today.
I am very pleased that the sculpture in the avenue is by the renowned artist Nicolás Guillén Batista. Guillén, who besides being one of the most virtuous poets we have had in Cuba, was born in the province of Camaguey, which makes me feel even more proud that this is my homeland. Of his extensive literary work, my favorite poem is entitled "De qué callada manera", which I consider a beautiful declaration of love that has been turned into music. For this reason, whenever I walk through it, these lyrics come to my mind.
You can also enjoy an interesting metallic sculpture that welcomes you to the alameda.

Ya hace varios años, cuando la Habana Vieja fue listada entre los lugares que constituyen Patrimonio de la Humanidad, la Oficina del Historiador se encargó de remozar la alameda, y mejorar este espacio tan encantador del que disfrutamos hoy.
Me da mucha satisfacción que la escultura que existe en la alameda sea del reconocido artista Nicolás Guillén Batista. Guillén, que además de ser uno de los poetas más virtuosos que hemos tenido en Cuba, es nacido en la provincia de Camaguey, lo que me hace sentir mucho más orgullo de que esa sea mi tierra natal. De su extensa obra literaria, mi poema preferido se titula "De qué callada manera", el cual considero una hermosa declaración de amor que ha sido convertido en música. Por tal motivo, siempre que recorro la alameda, llegan a mi mente estas letras.
Igualmente se puede disfrutar de una interesante escultura metálica que se encuentra dando la bienvenida a la alameda.

In the avenue you can enjoy the shade and the breeze offered by the trees that are there. Right in its center, stands its fountain, which is adorned by a white marble column.
Near the mall, there are other places of tourist interest such as the floating bridge, the old warehouses of San José and the old lumber and tobacco warehouse.

En la alameda se puede disfrutar de la sombra y la brisa que ofrecen los árboles que se encuentran allí. Justo en su centro, se erige su fuente, la cual está adornada por una columna de mármol blanco.
Cercano a la alameda, hay otros lugares de interés turístico como lo son el puente flotante, los antiguos almacenes de San José y el Antiguo almacén de la madera y el tabaco.

Undoubtedly, the mall is a perfect place to take a break and let yourself be carried away by the sea breeze. Its history and energy make you feel as if you have found an authentic piece of the city.

Sin dudas, la alameda es un lugar perfecto para tomar un descanso y dejarte llevar por la brisa marina. Su historia y su energía te hacen sentir como si hubieras encontrado un pedazo auténtico de la ciudad.
