But let me tell you: if you’re chasing sunsets, this quiet roadside perch might just be one of Central Switzerland’s best-kept secrets.
The Unexpected Viewpoint
Most people zip past Wolfsprung on their way to more famous spots like Rütli Meadow or Mount Pilatus. But those who stop at this small, unassuming turnout are rewarded with a panoramic view that looks like something out of a romantic painting: alpine peaks cradling the lake below, small villages dotting the shoreline, and—if you time it right—a sky melting from gold to lavender as the sun dips behind the mountains.
The name Wolfsprung, meaning “wolf’s leap,” adds a hint of folklore to the scene. Legend has it a wolf once leaped across the rocky chasm here to escape a hunter. Standing on the ledge, it’s easy to imagine the daring jump—and easier still to feel your breath catch at the vastness before you.
The Sunset
The real show begins about 30 minutes before the official sunset time. The lake turns from blue to shimmering bronze, and the clouds—if you're lucky enough to have some—catch fire with oranges, reds, and subtle violets. This is the golden hour in its most literal sense.
