When I was in Poreč last summer, I wished many times that the town would be empty just for a while so that I could see all its beauty without the crowds on the streets, but that was impossible. During the summer, Porec, like all coastal cities in Croatia, is full of tourists and very crowded. But I had a chance to see what Porec looks like without tourists thanks to my sister-in-law who sent me photos from her recent visit to Croatia.
She visited several cities, including Porec and Umag. She knows how much I love Porec and she took some photos of the city for me. Looking at well-known streets makes me feel strange because without people, the town looks different. It is calm, quiet and beautiful but not boringly quiet. It is pleasantly quiet.
Porec is a city with a soul that you have to feel because it is difficult to describe in words how you feel in it. The sea also was so calm and quiet that it looked like a big mirror in which the gloomy sky was reflected.
Looking at the photos I notice some details that I haven't seen before, such as the Mother and Child statue in the photo below. It represents the delicate relationship between mother and child.
For me, the most beautiful part and monument of Poreč is the Euphrasian Basilica and its surroundings. In Poreč there are many preserved remains from the period of the Roman Empire, and this church is one of the world's most valuable monuments and early Christian churches. It was built in the 6th century.
Although it was a cloudy day when my sister-in-law visited Porec, it did not diminish its brightness.
Restaurants and cafes that are full during the summer are now almost empty.
The summer noise is replaced by silence that allows you to enjoy the sounds of the waves of the beautiful Adriatic Sea.
And one thing you must know when you go to Porec. It is famous for its delicious ice cream, so don't miss the chance to try it.
Only 30 km from Poreč is Umag, another beautiful tourist town on the coast of the Adriatic Sea.
Umag is also an old town with a long history. But also a town with a lot of luxurious hotels and tourist facilities.
The oldest building in Umag is the Museum on St. Martin's Square. It is a medieval tower from the 14th century.
My sister-in-law was happy to visit Umag in the late afternoon and enjoy the beautiful sunset.
The visit to Umag was short and the photos are just enough to tickle the imagination and motivate you to visit it once and explore it. All the cities of the Adriatic are worth a visit because of their uniqueness and recognizable beauty.
Thank you very much for reading.
The images and writing are original and mine.
Greetings!
