🌎 Hola mis queridos Hivers viajeros👋, el día de hoy te quiero contar la continuación de mi viaje a Cancún. Luego de visitar el pueblo arqueóogico de Chichén Itzá que si aún no has leido mi post sobre ese maravilloso sitío te lo dejo aquí, nos fuimos a dar un chapuzón en el Cenote Ik Kil.
🌎 Hello my dear Hivers travelers👋, today I want to tell you the continuation of my trip to Cancun. After visiting the archaeological village of Chichen Itza, which if you haven't read my post about this wonderful site I'll leave you here, we went for a dip in the Cenote Ik Kil.

Sin embargo, mi corazón de Gequímico me impide avanzar sin explicarte primero ¿Qué es un Cenote? y ¿Cómo se formó esté maravilloso paisaje que acabas de ver?. La palabra cenote, quiere decir "caverna con déposito de agua" y viene de las palabras mayas "Ts’ono’ot o D’zonot" tal como lo reseña wikipedia y sí, los mayas no estaban equivocados, ya que en geología un cenote, es un lago de disolución y como su nombre lo indica se produce por disolución de material calcáreo, de rocas, ya sean calizas o dolomitas.
Imaginate que, durante miles de millones de años hubo factores propicios para que este material se diluyera, inciando por una lluvia ácida que percoló, disolviendo parte del suelo y provocando que poco a poco se formaran fracturas de las rocas cálcareas debajo del suelo, socabandola hasta que se generó una cueva, posteriormente cuando no hubo soporte del material superior este colapsó y se dió la abertura superior característica de los cenotes.Por último estas cavidades se llenaron de agua por incremento del nivel del mar, producto del último periodo de desglaciación.
However, my Gechemist heart prevents me from moving forward without first explaining to you what a Cenote is and how this marvelous landscape you have just seen was formed. The word cenote means "cavern with water deposit" and comes from the Mayan words "Ts'ono'ot o D'zonot " as it is written in wikipedia and yes, the Mayans were not wrong, since in geology a cenote is a lake of dissolution and as its name indicates it is produced by the dissolution of calcareous material, rocks, either limestone or dolomites.
Imagine that, during billions of years there were favorable factors for this material to dilute, starting with an acid rain that percolated, dissolving part of the soil and causing that little by little fractures of the calcareous rocks were formed under the soil, undermining it until a cave was generated, later when there was no support of the upper material it collapsed and the characteristic upper opening of the cenotes was created. Finally, these cavities were filled with water due to an increase in sea level as a result of the last period of deglaciation.

Ahora sí, con lo que respecta a la visita, el Cenote Ik Kill queda a tan solo 5 km de la ciudad arqueológica de Chichén Itzá por lo que puedes agendar para ese mismo día ambas visitas y también quedan cerca del pueblo de Vallaloid (ese post proximamente). Es probable que si estes con un paquete de turismo la entrada a este sitio este incluida, si vas por tu cuenta actualmente la entrada con acceso a alimentación se encuentra en 350 MX (17,5 $) y sólo la entrada sin alimentación 150 MX (8$), ambas incluyen locker y chaleco salva vidas. Al ingresar el lugar es bastante denota su folkore, hay personas con atuendos tradicionales y alucivos al pueblo Maya, con los que puedes tomarte fotos e incluso amenizan con música.
Now, regarding the visit, Cenote Ik Kill is only 5 km away from the archaeological city of Chichén Itzá, so you can schedule for the same day both visits and it is also close to the town of Vallaloid (that post coming soon). It is likely that if you are with a tour package the entrance to this site is included, if you go on your own currently the entrance with access to food is 350 MX (17.5 $) and only the entrance without food 150 MX (8$), both include locker and life vest. Como ya lo has podido notar, este cenote es bastante profundo 39 metros para ser exactos, esto lo hace ideal para hacer unos muy buenos clavados después del caluroso recorrido del Chichén Itza y es que vas a disfrutar de un agua fresquita y agradable que alivia cualquier cansacio después de las arduas caminatas turisticas. Así, que si no sabes nadar te recomiendo que te pongas tu chaleco y te lances a disfrutar de esta maravilla que la naturaleza te regala. Este lugar se caracteriza por unas escaleras alrededor de la laguna que llegan a un tope para que te puedas lanzar de clavado o chapuzón, o como yo que me lance de.... bombita jajaja. As you may have already noticed, this cenote is quite deep, 39 meters to be exact, this makes it ideal to make some very good dives after the hot tour of Chichen Itza and you will enjoy a cool and pleasant water that relieves any fatigue after the arduous tourist walks. So, if you don't know how to swim, I recommend that you put on your vest and jump in to enjoy this marvel that nature gives you. This place is characterized by stairs around the lagoon that reach a top so you can dive or dive, or like me, I jumped in ....pump jajaja. Here are some pictures of my visit.
