Our second day in Croatia was simple, it's just wandering around the city—no tours, no taxis, no car. Just our feet leading the way. It will be hard for kids because we just walked. But sometimes, no set of plans are the best memories created. Were the explorers, the Polgar Family had an open day in the beautiful city.
Rijeka welcomed us warmly with its old-world charm and beautiful architectural designs.
It's another promising beautiful day of our exploration in Rijeka. Waking up on our second day, the Croatian sun was peeking through the shutters of our apartment. Our apartment was perfectly situated in a classic European apartment building. Charming light yellow rows and subtle balconies on the upper floors bustling the bust streets below. It's right next to that striking yellow building. Including the ground floor boutique named Swarovski. It looks so elegant in the surroundings and the place looks expensive.
The city's architectural design around us was a blend of old-world charm and modern structures, and that names city's unique character.
Our feet naturally leaned towards the water. As we approached the harbor area, the Mrtvi kanal had a magnificent view. The place is bustling with people yet peaceful . It's a haven of boats in the Mrtvi kanal.
There were lots of yachts in different sizes, some are modern, others with a more classic, bobbing gently in the calm waters. It was all lined up reaching towards the cloudy and beautiful sky.
We continued our walk and we came across the statue Ivan Zajc and the area surrounding the statue situated in front of the Croatian National Theatre Ivan Zajc.Ivan Zajc is the most influential composer and conductor in Croatia. This spot is a tribute to music and culture, and also a Rijeka’s unique blend of old-world charm and Austro-Hungarian elegance.
The bronze statue of Ivan Zajc it's a symbol of national pride in Croatian art.
There's one grand building that immediately caught my attention. It is the magnificent structure named Ivan Zajc Croatian National Theatre. With its Neo Baroque architecture and green dome, it was stunning. It really stands out as a focal point of the area. The timeless elegance admiring whoever passes the place. The banners in the front says "It's Now or Never:.
We continued past the theatre, after we arrived at our destination: the beach. And as we finally reached the shore, the gentle waves against the pebbles was the perfect soundtrack to our tiring feet exploring the city.
After hours on the beach, we continued to explore the city.
Walked and walked and walked and another grand building caught my attention. The Palace Modello (City Library) Rijeka is rich in history. The building stands so proud as its represents the historical style of Neo Baroque. I admire the contrast between bold yellow, white exterior. and tile rooftops. It's not just a library, It's a massive masterpiece .
As we stroll around the city. It's another majestic Jadrolinija Building in the heart of Rijeka. It is a functional part of Croatia's maritime life. It reflects the city’s connection to the sea. It's a perfect blend of scenery and architecture. The picturesque surroundings I find coffee shops and its identity as a port city. There are port activities in the area. The place tells us more of its maritime story.
Rijeka City gave us more than what we expected from calm waters, grand buildings, lively streets and an amazing adventure adventure. I’ll forever remember that day we walked around the city.
Rijeka's charm and timeless beauty stole my heart.
