What I like about volunteering is that in most cases the hours are very flexible. As in this type of work the exchange is not for financial compensation, this makes it less strict than a conventional contract. In all this year doing this, I had the opportunity to put together several days off to have at least four days of ‘holiday’ in a row, where I used that time to get to know a little bit the outskirts of the place where my hostel was located. So it was that during my stay in the province of Catamarca I was able to visit the town of Fiambalá, 330 km from the capital city ❤️.
Lo que me gusta de los voluntariados es que en la mayoría de los casos los horarios son muy flexibles. Como en este tipo de trabajos el intercambio no es por una compensación económica, eso lo vuelve menos estricto que otro contrato convencional. En todo este año haciendo esto, tuve la oportunidad de juntar varios días libres para tener al menos cuatro días seguidos de "vacaciones", en donde usé ese tiempo para ir a conocer un poco las afueras del lugar en el que se encontraba mi hostel. Así fue como durante mi estadía en la provincia de Catamarca pude visitar el pueblo de Fiambalá, a 330 km de la ciudad capital ❤️.
In recent times I have managed to keep almost complete control of my personal finances, which allows me to have a constant savings to make some guest trips when I need to. Also, since I don't have so many expenses when volunteering, I can afford to do this kind of getaway. During my stay in the province of Catamarca I stayed in the capital city and visited a lot of places in the surrounding area, but I wanted to group a few days off to go a bit further afield 😃.
En este último tiempo he logrado llevar un control casi absoluto de mis finanzas personales, lo que me permite contar con un ahorro constante para hacer algunos viajes de huésped cuando lo necesito. Además, como en el voluntariado no tengo tantos gastos, puedo permitirme hacer este tipo de escapadas. En mi estadía en la provincia de Catamarca estuve en la capital de la ciudad y visité un montón de lugares en los alrededores, pero quería agruparme algunos días libres para ir un poco más lejos 😃.
As I had two days off per week on my exchange, I worked 10 days in a row so that I could have four days off together, which I used to go to Fiambalá, in the interior of the province. It took about five hours to travel the 330 km from the capital to this place, so I wanted to stay there for at least three nights to make it worthwhile. Catamarca is one of those provinces that is difficult to get around without public transport, but getting to the centre of Fiambalá by long-distance bus was enough for me 😃.
Como en mi intercambio tenía dos días libres por semana, trabajé 10 días seguidos para poder tener cuatro días libres juntos, los cuáles aproveché para ir hasta Fiambalá, en el interior de la provincia. Recorrer los 330 km que separan la capital de este lugar tomaba como cinco horas, por lo que quería quedarme ahí al menos 3 noches para hacer que valga la pena. Catamarca es una de esas provincias difíciles para recorrer sin transporte público, pero con acercarme hasta el centro de Fiambalá en bus de larga distancia era suficiente para mí 😃.
The first day I arrived at almost 9 PM, so I couldn't do much more than find something to eat and go to sleep. Here I got a private room for $20, a price I thought was a bit high but I was still willing to pay to visit this town. The next day, I got up early and went out to walk around the town, which is not that big but still has some things to see, such as the main square and the Museum of Man, where interesting things are exhibited, such as items from expeditions to the local mountains. There were even two mummies in the museum, but I didn't dare take a picture of them because they gave me a shock 🙃.
El primer día llegué casi a las 9 PM, por lo que no pude hacer mucho más que buscar algo que cenar e ir a dormir. En este lugar conseguí una habitación privada por $20, un precio que me pareció algo elevado pero que igual estuve dispuesta a pagar por visitar este pueblo. Al día siguiente, me levanté temprano y salí a recorrer el pueblo, que no es tan grande pero que igual tiene algunas cosas para ver, como la plaza principal y el Museo del Hombre, en donde se exponen cosas interesantes como artículos de expediciones a las montañas locales. Incluso habían dos momias en el museo, pero no me atreví a sacarles foto porque me dieron impresión 🙃.
Probably the main and unmissable attraction of this town is to visit the thermal baths located 17 km from the centre. The difficult thing is that there is no public transport to get you there, and as I was alone, taxis cost me about $40 in total. This was even more than the cost of the 330 km trip the day before, so it didn't make sense to pay that much. In all my gallantry, when I approached the tourist office where I was to buy the entrance ticket to the hot springs, I saw a couple who were also buying the ticket and I asked them if they had room in their car to take me. They kindly said yes, so I bought my ticket and went with them to the place 😃.
Probablemente el atractivo principal e imperdible de este pueblo es visitar las termas ubicadas a 17 km del centro. Lo difícil es que no hay ningún transporte público que te acerque hasta ahí, y como yo estaba sola, los taxis me salían como $40 en total. Este valor era incluso más que lo que me había costado el viaje para hacer los 330 km el día anterior, por lo que no tenía sentido pagar eso. Con toda mi caradurez, cuando me acerqué a la oficina de turismo en donde debía comprar la entrada de las termas, ví a un matrimonio que también estaba comprando la entrada y les pregunté si tenían lugar en su auto como para llevarme. Amablemente me dijeron que sí, así que compré mi entrada y fui con ellos hasta el lugar 😃.
Although I am very embarrassed to ‘hitchhike’, I was glad that I had the courage to consult with the couple about the move. They were very cheerful and in the end I ended up sharing the whole day with them in the hot springs. I paid $6 for the entrance fee, plus an additional $3 to rent a dressing gown. When we finally arrived at the thermal complex, we found a beautiful place in the mountains with several pools of various temperatures to enjoy. At the time of this trip it was still winter, so being in a place with warm water was ideal 😃.
A pesar de que me da mucha vergüenza "hacer dedo" me alegré de haber tenido un impulso de valentía y haber consultado con esa pareja sobre ese traslado. Ellos eran muy alegres y al final terminé compartiendo todo el día con ellos en las termas. Por la entrada pagué $6, además de $3 adicionales para alquilar una bata. Cuando finalmente llegamos al complejo termal, nos encontramos con un lugar hermoso entre las montañas y con varias piletas de varias temperaturas para disfrutar. Al momento de este viaje todavía era invierno, así que estar en un lugar con agua caliente era ideal 😃.
This complex has 14 pools with water temperatures ranging between 28 and 51°C. It is recommended that you go in for a few minutes from the coldest to the hottest to allow your body to get used to the temperature. It was a good idea to hire a bathrobe to wear between the pools, because when you were in the warm water you were fine, but when you got out you immediately remembered it was winter 😂.
Este complejo cuenta con 14 piletas con aguas que varían entre los 28 y los 51°C. Lo recomendado es ir metiéndose algunos minutos desde las más frías hasta las más calientes para permitir que el cuerpo se acostumbre a la temperatura. Haber alquilado una bata para usar entre la salida de pileta y pileta fue una buena idea, porque cuando estabas en el agua caliente estabas bien, pero al salir enseguida te acordabas de que era invierno 😂.
There is also a restaurant with basic meals, toilets and showers. On the day I went, a random weekday at 2 PM, the biggest crowd at this place was older people coming from contingents of jublidados. I guess not many young people go to the hot springs, but I loved it. I had already been to some hot springs in Mendoza province, and I really enjoyed visiting these too. The place was very nice and I'm glad to say that I was able to get into all the pools, even the 51°C one for a few minutes, where nobody dared to go in. 😃
Este lugar también cuenta con un restaurante con comidas básicas, baños y duchas. Para el día que yo fui, día de semana random a las 2 PM, el mayor público que asistía a este lugar era gente mayor proveniente de contingentes de jublidados. Supongo que no mucha gente joven va a las termas, pero a mí me encantaron. Ya había estado en unas termas en la provincia de Mendoza, y me gustó mucho visitar estas también. El lugar era muy lindo y me alegra decir que me pude meter a todas las piletas, incluso a la de 51°C durante unos minutos, donde nadie se atrevía a entrar 😃.
In the end, this day turned out to be quite economical for me thanks to the couple who made me part of their trip to the hot springs. When I had arrived in Fiambalá I didn't know how, but I knew I had to be in the hot springs because it was the most classic thing to do there. I guess my wish unconsciously and consciously materialised, because I ended up achieving it. Being in beautiful places like these reminds me why I did this whole nomadic journey and how good it is to be able to manage time conveniently. Thank you Fiambalá Hot Springs for an amazing day 😃.
Al final, este día terminó resultando bastante económico para mí gracias a ese matrimonio que me hizo parte de su paseo a las termas. Cuando había llegado a Fiambalá no sabía como, pero sabía que tenía que estar en las termas porque era lo más clásico para hacer ahí. Supongo que mi deseo inconsciente y conscientemente se materializó, porque terminé lográndolo. Estar en lugares lindos como estos me hacen recordad el por qué de todo este viaje nómade y de lo bueno que es poder manejar el tiempo convenientemente.
