Lunch with a beautiful view in Paternoster
It's been a long time since I have wanted to visit Langebaan, having read a lot about the wonderful barbecues they hold on the beach.
Langebaan is a town in the Western Cape province of South Africa on the eastern shore of Langebaan Lagoon. Langebaan is situated 120 km north of Cape Town, just off the R27, about 28 km from Vredenburg and 20 km from Saldanha Bay. Wikipedia
This past weekend, we decided to take a spontaneous drive up the West Coast to the charming town of Langebaan. Just a little over an hour from Cape Town, Langebaan feels like a world away — slower, quieter, and full of small-town charm.
We arrived mid-morning and headed straight to a quaint little coffee shop called Wings tucked along the main road. It had all the charm of a place that invites you to linger. The smell of freshly ground beans filled the air. We ordered two cappuccino's and decided to stroll to the beach area.
Biggest coffee grinder I've ever seen
Walking with our coffee, we took a slow walk down toward the beach. Langebaan’s lagoon is one of its best features — calm, clear, and a striking shade of turquoise even in winter. The tide was low, and the sandbanks stretched out in long ripples, perfect for a peaceful stroll.
There’s something incredibly grounding about a beach walk with no agenda — with no wind and a perfect winters day full of sunshine. It was still a little bit chilly though.
We left Langebaan feeling refreshed and reminded of how lucky we are to have such hidden gems so close to home. Sometimes all you need is good coffee, a bit of fresh sea air, and time to wander. Langebaan gave us all that — and more.
We'll definitely want to go back there sometime in the future.
Close to the lagoon and beach
There's a restaurant that I've seen on Instagram where they have a magnificent barbecue - a message from the Strandloper

Definitely on the bucket list for one day in the not too distant future - I hope.
We were there for too short a time but we drove on to the waterfront at Paternoster and shared lunch with the most beautiful view of the ocean.

We stayed the night at a stunning Airbnb and left the following morning back to Paarl in the Western Cape.
