Random Stops Tend To be The Best
We were driving along the south eastern coastline of the little Caribbean island Tobago when we decided to stop off at a random beach on the side of the road. If you have been following along with my blogs, you would know that Tobago has so many hidden gems that are rewarding to people who take chances and stop off randomly at unknown places! Today we parked the car while driving at a beautiful beach front that had a great view of Batteaux Bay (which we knew not at the time until I checked the metadata on the photos) and Little Tobago as well as Goat Island. These were smaller mini islands that are just of the eastern coast of Tobago.
The mountainous road we drove along for hours was the one you see above which lead directly to Batteaux Bay and allowed you to drive perpendicular to the ocean and basically check out all the bays along that coastline. You can basically see how the mountains of the eastern coastline influence the towns and villages of that side of the beautiful island. The villages are so quiet and quaint, it sometimes makes me want to move to and live the rest of my life in Tobago!
As you can see from this view, you can see Batteaux Bay as well as others along the coastline as well as the smaller Goat Island and the larger Little Tobago in the top right in the far off distance! We were quite excited to indulge in these magnificent sights and views!
You can see how close the roadway gets to the water giving us great views for us to be able to decide where to stop. In the shot above, you can see that there is a larger patch of sand and a river that flows out into the ocean where and it was unique to the shoreline so far and this was one of the deciding factors why we stopped off here. It was also a great stop as well because of the immediate proximity to Goat Island and Little Tobago where we could get a great view and maybe send the drone out with least use of distance and hence save battery.
This the view we had at ground level. You can see the islands off into the distance with the serene site of the river flowing into the ocean and the trees as well that accompanied it. There was even a bird I managed to capture in the shot! It was interesting to see how Little Tobago overshadowed Goat island in size even though it was farther away from the coastline! If we weren't aware of the two islands being there from Geography classed in school, we would have thought it was just one land mass out there!
I decided to send up the drone to do some exploring of the coastline as almost always, the view is one hundred times better and there are certainly things that we cannot see from the ground level that are to be discovered from above! The first thing I saw was the amazing colors of the water that was not apparent from where we were! The whole coastline was lined with amazingly green and blue hues and the weather was perfect for this type of long distance photography with the visibility being so clear. Tobago is well known for its clean air anyway, devoid of pollution of everyday traffic. If you look closely at the roads in the photos, you would hardly any cars at all!
Here is a wider angle view of the same coastline and bay that shows the beautiful color differentiation of the bay itself. I really love how the coast is fringed with turquoise patches and shallow reefs as well as green hues that indicate deeper ones. This was so mesmerizingly beautiful from the air complemented by the blue skies and lush verdant mountainsides. Tobago is truly a Caribbean Gem if this is what we get for stopping off randomly while on a road trip!
This peninsula itself looks to be uninhabited and unexplored, I would have loved to have hired a boat to go check out those turquoise colored waters and scuba dive at those reefs! Around the corner of this peninsula would be the southern coastline of Tobago which we had not yet explored as of yet either.
To the left of us was another bay or cove of sorts with steep cliff drop offs that the road did not lead to but went up the mountain side it was on. The waters there looked a little deeper as it was much greener than the rest of the coastline so far. The rocky cliff faces, if you look closely, were quite alarmingly orange which you can see in the first photo of the blog post as well!
You can see another bay on the left hand side of the previously discussed one of the photo above (to the far right in the above shot). It seemed to have a jetty and to also have a pathway form the roadway on close inspection! There were also a few structures and buildings on the curved impression of the bay as well. The waters in this one were even more vibrant and beautifully colored that the rest of the coastline and warranted its own blog! You can also see orange colored sargasso seaweed in the right side aimlessly floating about, something we may discuss in a future post.
For those of you who may be wondering, this is what Goat Island looks like up close with a large beautifully fringing reef called Angel Reef! I managed to fly to Goat Island and back with the drone just before the battery died with some sort of miracle! I was stupid enough to attempt the flight in the first place but it did end up with me getting amazing footage and photos like the one above! Thanks a lot for coming along with us, cheers!
