Greetings, Fellow Excavators!
Did you dig through enough mounds and caverns today? Looted any treasure already?Just stones? Stones are cool. Also, cult. Literally.
A couple of Caturdays ago, I shared a stolen image of The Ancient Guardian but I also promised I would reveal what laid on the other side. I mean, The Guardian was the main quest and the most prominent entity around, of course, but the excavation site should give it some context.
So, here's the context. Without much text and mostly a visual run-through on my part. Usually, in such cases, I do not retell or copy a story that I heard or read about the place I visit. I do not want to spoil everything for you, unless i do want to. Which should have a reason. Such is not the case. The story of the place is yours to find as well. Mine is the pleasure to share my own impressions.
And experience. Sometimes, it is surprisingly not a great inspiration of photography. This time, it was a snapshot rush in front of a mob of selfie-taking aunties. Who were literally shouting 'Echo!' in the echo chamber. A literal echo chamber. The one at the center of the space beneath the mound.
Before we get there, though...
The entrance.
A hall.
No key.
A kicked-in door.
Speaking of cult, this was a reference to a poetic quote. Stephen King. The Dark Tower.
A Rose
A Key
An Unfound Door
The rest...the sequence of my other photos would best be explained thus...
Imagine SG1 coming through the gate to a new location, crouching, looking through their sights left and right, shooting at random targets, shifting to one knee, yes all four of them in accord, ducking, crawling for cover, seeing the crowd of selfie-taking aunties right behind them, rushing forward to the only opening they see as if it was scripted. Which it was.
Some intricate detail these ancients were masters of...
Me...not so much. I blurred it as if in a low-quality ghost movie.
You can run from selfie-taking aunties all you want but, going deeper under the mound you are not surprised at all when it turns out...
...as somebody wisely pointed out a long time ago...
It's a trap!
Good thing it was only a short visit.
Open air is quite welcome to the unaccustomed to dwelling under the mound all life, and day, and more...
Finally, trying to give you some perspective upon the size of the whole thing. A mound of some serious proportions this is. A real hill with trees and all.
Crowning the end of the road going up from Starosel, Midwoods Forest (just kidding but who knows), Bulgaria.
Peace and Echoes!
Yours,
Manol
