1. Preparing for the Jump
Before taking the leap, there are a few essential steps to complete. First, you'll need to sign a waiver acknowledging the risks involved. After that, you’ll watch an instructional video that covers safety procedures, body positioning, and what to expect during the jump. Your tandem instructor will then give you a short hands-on demo to ensure you're comfortable and ready. Skydive Siquijor accepts both card and cash payments, but you must book ahead of time. You can secure your slot by contacting them through their Facebook page or booking directly on their website.
2. A Spontaneous Decision and a Waiting Game
Skydiving had been on my bucket list for years, and I finally got the chance to tick it off during our one-month vacation on Siquijor Island. As a spontaneous traveler, I didn’t book my skydive in advance, thinking I could just sign up whenever I felt ready. However, nature had other plans. Two weeks into our stay, a typhoon hit the island, keeping us indoors for days, binge-watching movies. Once the storm passed, I rushed to book my skydive, but the wind was still strong, so I had to reschedule for the next day. Talk about suspense!
3. The Flight Experience: A Small Plane and Chilling Heights
Skydiving in Siquijor starts from a small private airport in Barangay Cang-alwang. We were transferred to the airport by van, and when I saw the plane, I was surprised at how tiny it was! With only five of us inside, space was tight, and I had to bend my knees to fit. As the plane climbed higher, I noticed the temperature dropping drastically. It was around 30°C during takeoff, but once we reached 10,000 feet, it felt like standing in front of a 16°C air conditioner. That’s when the nerves kicked in—this was really happening!
4. The Jump: A Thrilling Freefall with the Best View
My tandem instructor and I were the second pair to jump. Sitting at the edge of the plane, my heart was pounding. The moment we leaped into the open sky, I couldn’t help but scream in excitement and pure adrenaline rush. The freefall lasted only 30-40 seconds, but it felt like an eternity of thrill.
Then, the parachute opened, and suddenly, everything slowed down. Below me, the breathtaking beauty of Siquijor unfolded—the vast blue ocean stretching endlessly and the lush green mountains painting a stunning contrast. Seeing the entire island from above was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
