The stay in Edinburgh was supposed to be a slow brake after very intense and exhausting days spent in the north of Scotland. That's why we decided not to go crazy too much, just take a few pleasant walks around the city? The first walk took us to Calton Hill, which I mentioned in the previous post. The second walk was the main point Agatka wanted to visit, namely the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh. unfortunately, in the botanical garden, the biggest attraction in the form of the famous palm house was under renovation, so our sightseeing was limited only to a walk around the outer gardens. Yes, I have never seen such nicely trimmed lawns in my life, but apart from that, there was nothing interesting that I could share with you on the blog. (well, maybe from Agatka's point of view it was interesting, but unfortunately not for me).

Pobyt w Edynburgu miał być powolnym hamowaniem po bardzo intensywnych i wyczerpujących dniach spędzonych na północy Szkocji. Dlatego postanowiliśmy nie szaleć za bardzo tylko spokojnie zrobić sobie kilka przyjemnych spacerów po mieście ? Pierwszy spacer zaprowadził nas na wzgórze Calton Hill, o którym wspomniałem w poprzednim wpisie. Drugi spacer, to był główny punkt jaki chciała odwiedzić Agatka, a mianowicie Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh. niestety w ogrodzie botanicznym największa atrakcja w postaci słynnej palmiarni była w remoncie, więc nasze zwiedzanie ograniczyło się tylko do spaceru po zewnętrznych ogrodach. Owszem tak ładnie przystrzyżonych trawników nie widziałem nigdy w życiu, ale poza tym nie było tam nic ciekawego czym mógłbym się z wami podzielić na blogu. (no może z punktu widzenia Agatki było to ciekawe, ale niestety nie dla mnie).

The third point in Edinburgh, to which we devoted a little more time, was St Giles' Cathedral. We visited it because walking around the city you simply cannot miss it. Located on the main street of the city, it is an object that attracts crowds of visitors, and thus also numerous street artists performing various miracles. The great advantage of the cathedral as a tourist attraction is that visiting it is free, and it must be noted that it looks different in different cities and usually when I see that after entering the temple you have to pay for visiting, I just leave and I'm there. . Giles is located on a flat area which is part of a ridge descending from the castle hill. Although the current form of the church was built in the years 1385-1410, it should be noted that the first church in this place was built in the 12th century during the reign of King David I, but it was seriously damaged as a result of the fire of 1385. Most of the interior decoration elements of the church that we can admire today are original and come from this period, just after the reconstruction. One of the exceptions in this medieval interior are the stained glass windows, which come from the 19th century, but their relatively young age should not take anything away from them, because they are simply gorgeous.

Trzecim punktem w Edynburgu, któremu poświęciliśmy trochę więcej czasu była Katedra Świętego Idziego. Odwiedziliśmy ją, bo chodząc po mieście po prostu nie da się ją ominąć. Położona na głównej ulicy miasta jest obiektem przyciągającym tłumy zwiedzających, a co za tym idzie również licznych ulicznych artystów wyczyniających najróżniejsze cuda. The Thistle Chapel deserves special attention. The history of the chapel dates back to ancient medieval times, but in 1688 it was plundered and destroyed, and only a little more than a hundred years ago it was rebuilt in the Gothic style, and its architecture attracts thousands of tourists every day. In the past, knights decorated with the Order of the Thistle, i.e. the oldest and highest Scottish order, sat in the chapel. There are 16 places of honor in the chapel, which in modern times are occupied by distinguished Scots.

Na szczególną uwagę zasługuje Kaplica Ostu. Historia kaplicy sięga dawnych średniowiecznych czasów, ale w roku 1688 została ona splądrowana i zniszczona i dopiero niewiele ponad sto lat temu została odbudowana w stylu gotyckim, a swoją architekturą przyciąga tysiące turystów każdego dnia.
