While walking on it, one has the impression that the creators of fantasy literature drew inspiration from the landscapes and the misty, slightly mysterious atmosphere that prevails on the island. The first place, after reaching the island, which was so attractive that we decided to stay with us for a moment, turned out to be one of such legendary, magical places.
Where the Glen Sligachan Valley begins, and the swift mountain river flows from it, runs the main A87 road on the Isle of Skye, which we just drove along. It is true that the road crosses this swift mountain river over the new bridge, but there is another older bridge right next to it. The older bridge, called the Sligachan Old Bridge, dates from 1818 and is now only used by pedestrians and cyclists. Not knowing why under the bridge, we noticed that many people were kneeling down by the river bank and dipping their heads in it. As it turned out later, the Sligachan River is said to have magical properties in this place. Anyone who immerses their face in water for at least 7 seconds and then will not wipe their face, but will calmly let the water dry on their skin, gain eternal beauty. Some skeptic will ask: Where did such miraculous properties of this water come from? They came from magic, and the exact circumstances in which ordinary river water turned into water with magical properties are described in legend.
Once upon a time, on the Isle of Skye, the brave Scáthach, the strongest warrior in all of Scotland, lived in Dunscaith Castle. She was so strong and militant that she defeated all Scottish men without any problems. Stories of her power traveled around the world and spread beyond Scotland. When the news of the warrior's strength reached Ireland, the strongest Irish warrior, Cú Chulainn, found out about her and decided to challenge her. They will sail to the Isle of Skye and he has challenged the brave warrior. Scáthach entered a fight that was very, very even. Rumor has it that the entire Isle of Skye has shaken the earth from the exchange of blows between the warriors. It seemed that the fight could only be settled by killing one of the warriors. Scáthach's daughter was in despair and was very afraid for her mother's life, but she did not know how to help her. The scared little girl ran away and ran to the Sligachan River, where she knelt on the river bank and began to cry, begging the good gods for a successful end to the fight. The tears falling into the water awoke the faeries living in the river, who were very concerned about the scared girl's fate and decided to help her. They ordered the girl to plunge her head under the water for 7 seconds, thanks to which she had a brilliant idea how to end the fight of both her mothers with the warrior Cú Chulainn. The girl hurriedly ran home, collecting herbs and nuts along the way. Upon arrival, it immediately began to cook delicious food. The smell of cooked dinner spread throughout the valley, and it must have reached the fighting warriors as well. By the smell, both warriors realized how tired they were with the veil and how badly they needed a meal break. So they decided to stop for a moment, lay down their weapons and go to their meal. Upon arriving home, they were greeted by their daughter Scáthachs, who had just finished preparing a meal for the warriors, but by the time Cú Chulainn was eating under the Scáthach roof, it meant that he became her guest, and according to Scottish custom, they could not fight each other anymore.

Chodząc po niej ma się wrażenie, że twórcy literatury fantasy, pełnymi garściami czerpali inspiracje z krajobrazów i z mglistej lekko tajemniczej atmosfery jaka panuje na wyspie. Pierwsze miejsce, po dotarciu na wyspę, które było na tyle atrakcyjne, że zdecydowaliśmy się przy nam zatrzymać na chwile okazało się właśnie jednym z takich legendarnych, magicznych miejsc.
Tam gdzie zaczyna się dolina Glen Sligachan.i wypływa z niej wartka górska rzeka przebiega główna droga A87 prowadząca po wyspie Skye, którą właśnie jechaliśmy. Co prawda droga przekracza ową górską, wartką rzekę po nowym moście, ale tuż obok znajduje się drugi starszy most. Starszy most o nazwie Sligachan Old Bridge pochodzi z roku 1818 i obecnie służy wyłącznie pieszym i rowerzystom. Nie wiedzieć dlaczego pod mostem zauważyliśmy, że wiele osób przyklękiwało nad brzegiem rzeki i zanurzało w niej swoje głowy. Jak się później okazało rzeka Sligachan właśnie w tym miejscu ma ponoć magiczne właściwości. Każdy kto zanurzy swoją twarz w wodzie na co najmniej 7 sekund I później nie będzie wycierał twarzy tylko spokojnie pozwoli aby woda sama wyschła na jego skórze zyska wieczną urodę.
