England is the kingdom of gardens and visiting the London Gardens was one of the main goals of the trip. While still at home in Poland and looking for interesting city attractions, I came across a free-to-see garden, unique in Europe, on the top floor of one of London's tallest skyscrapers. Sky Garden in The Fenchurch Building, affectionately called Walkie-Talkie by Londoners, was theoretically available for free, but advance reservations had to be made online.

Unfortunately, the reservation system is very confusing, because when I first learned about Sky Garden it was April and then, looking at the reservation calendar, I had the opportunity to book it at any time. (there were a lot of applicants, but the daily limits were not exceeded and there were still vacancies at many different times every day). Later, when we knew exactly when we would fly to London, when we wanted to make a reservation, it turned out that it was impossible to make a reservation for our date. You could only make reservations a month in advance, although a few weeks ago it looked completely different. It's hard to do anything but enjoy it, which is a pity, because the garden located on the top 38th floor of a 160-meter-high building must be impressive. Although when the building was put into use in January 2015, it was hailed as the worst new building in Great Britain, and the gardens themselves, although, according to the visualizations, were supposed to be very attractive, full of tropical trees, in the end all the vegetation was limited to succulents and ferns. In a word, it was disappointing. After such a small scandal, it was decided to introduce some changes, but still this Sky Garden cannot be an alternative to KEW Garden, because it is very poor.

Anglia to królestwo ogrodów i właśnie zwiedzanie Londyńskich ogrodów to był jeden z głównych celów wyjazdu. Będąc jeszcze w domu w Polsce i szukając ciekawych atrakcji miejskich natrafiłem na darmowy do zwiedzenia niepowtarzalny na skale europejska ogród na ostatnim piętrze jednego z najwyższych Londyńskich wieżowców. Sky Garden w budynku The Fenchurch Building nazywanego pieszczotliwie przez londyńczyków Walkie-Talkie, teoretycznie było dostępne za darmo, ale należało zrobić wcześniejszą rezerwacje internetową.

Niestety system rezerwacji jest bardzo pogmatwany, bo gdy pierwszy raz dowiedziałem się o Sky Garden to był kwiecień i wówczas patrząc na kalendarz rezerwacji miałem możliwość zarezerwowania go w dowolnym momencie. ( było dużo chętnych, ale dzienne limity nie były przekroczone i każdego dnia o wielu różnych godzinach były ciągle wolne miejsca). Później gdy już wiedzieliśmy kiedy dokładnie polecimy do Londynu, to wówczas chcąc zrobić rezerwację okazało się, że nie da się zrobić rezerwacji na nasz termin. Można było zrobić włącznie rezerwacje na miesiąc do przodu, choć kilka tygodni temu wyglądało to zupełnie odwrotnie. Trudno nie pozostało nic innego jak tylko obejść się smakiem, a szkoda, bo ogród umiejscowiony na ostatnim 38 piętrze budynku liczącego 160 metrów wysokości musi robić wrażenie. Chociaż gdy w styczniu roku 2015 oddano budynek do użytkowania to okrzyknięto go najgorszym nowym budynkiem w Wielkiej Brytani, a same ogrody choć zgodnie z wizualizacjami miały być bardzo atrakcyjne pełne tropikalnych drzew, to finalnie cała roślinność ograniczyła się do sukulentów i paproci. Jednym słowem rozczarowywał. Po takiej małej aferce zdecydowano się wprowadzić pewne zmiany, ale wciąż ten Sky Garden nie może być alternatywą dla KEW Garden, bo jest on bardzo ubogi.

Here you didn't need to make any advance reservation, you just had to stand in line for about 5 minutes, undergo a security check and take the elevator to the 15th floor.
After leaving the elevator on the 15th floor, it turns out that we are standing in the open air, with all kinds of plants around us, and in the distance we are surrounded by the tallest office buildings in the City of London. The garden was designed by the German landscape architecture studio Latz+Partner, whose portfolio includes many interesting implementations of the reclamation of post-industrial spaces in German cities.
The garden on this roof has been designed to provide a panoramic view of London, and the walk around the edge of the roof is accompanied from the inside by various types of vines, grass and flower beds and small trees. In the garden you can find 323 square meters of perennial and grass beds, 50 meters of walls planted with various types of vines, 25 apple and pear trees, 85 wisteria seedlings growing on a pergola located at one of the edges of the building, 8 fig trees (the English are very fond of fig trees) and 121 square meters of various types of flower pots. The effect is amazing and even though you can walk around the entire garden in probably 5 minutes, we spent about an hour on this roof.

Szczęśliwie złożyło się, że zaledwie kilkaset metrów obok znaleźliśmy inny również darmowy podniebny ogród. The Garden at 120.

Tutaj nie trzeba było robić żadnej wcześniejszej rezerwacji, wystarczyło tylko stanąć w kolejce na jakieś 5 minut, poddać się kontroli bezpieczeństwa i wyjechać winda na 15 piętro.
Po wyjściu z windy na 15 piętrze okazuje się, że stoimy pod gołą chmurką, wokół nas wszędzie dokoła znajdują się najróżniejsze rośliny, a w dalszej perspektywie otaczają nas najwyższe biurowce Londyńskiego City. Ogród zaprojektowała niemiecka pracownia architektury krajobrazu Latz+Partner, która w swoim portfolia ma bardzo dużo ciekawych realizacji rekultywacji post industrialnych przestrzeni w niemieckich miastach
Ogród na tym dachu został zaprojektowany tak aby zapewnić panoramiczny widok na Londyn, a spacerowi wokół krawędzi dachu towarzyszą od wnętrza różnego rodzaju pnącza, rabaty trawiaste i kwietne oraz małe drzewa. W ogrodzie można znaleźć 323 metry kwadratowe rabat bylinowo – trawiastych, 50 metrów ścian obsadzonych różnego rodzaju pnączami, 25 drzew jabłonek oraz grusz, 85 sadzonek wisterii porastających pergolę zlokalizowana przy jednej z krawędzi budynku, 8 drzew figowych ( Anglicy bardzo lubią drzewka figowe) i 121 metrów kwadratowych różnego rodzaju donic. Efekt jest niesamowity i mimo tego, że cały ogród można obejść dookoła w pewnie 5 minut, to my spędziliśmy na tym dachu chyba z godzinę.
