When our stay in Rome was coming to an end, we decided that it was high time for the Roman Forum, i.e. sections covering ancient Rome. We just didn't go inside, just looked at who made the roman forum, and proceeded to the points where the point measures were made, the adjacent highs.

Gdy nasz pobyt w Rzymie dobiegał do końca uznaliśmy, że przyszła najwyższa pora aby odwiedzić Forum Romanum, czyli najważniejsze miejsce starożytnego Rzymu. Postanowiliśmy nie wchodzić do środka, tylko obejść dokładnie całe forum romanum dookoła i przy okazji odwiedzić najważniejsze punkty widokowe rozlokowane na sąsiednich wzniesieniach.

Roman Forum, as the oldest square in the city, was originally surrounded by the Capitoline Hill, Palatine Hill, Celius, Esquiline, Wiminal and Quirinale, and as it often happens in such situations, such a natural depression often has a swampy form. There are theories that it was similar in this case. Before this square was paved and before the inhabitants of ancient Rome began to meet on it, there was a marsh here, fed by a river flowing nearby. The few buildings were built on wooden stilts. It was only in the 7th century BC that a drainage canal was made for this area, the surface was drained and hardened, and only from that moment can we speak of the creation of the Roman Forum. The initiator of the construction was Tarkwiniusz Pyszny, who began to locate a number of important public buildings in this place. The lectern, the seat of the high priest, the building of the archive and countless temples of the entire pantheon of gods. During the empire, the Roman Forum was expanded and enriched with more churches, triumphal arches, columns commemorating lofty victories and smaller forums where the daily life of the republic took place.

Forum romanum jako najstarszy plac w mieście pierwotnie otoczony był wzgórzami Kapitolem, Palatynem, Celiusem, Eskwilinem, Wiminałem i Kwirynałem i jak to często bywa w takich sytuacjach takie naturalne zagłębienie terenu często ma bagnistą formę. Są teorie, że w tym przypadku było podobnie. Nim ten plac został utwardzony i nim zaczęli spotykać się na nim mieszkańcy antycznego Rzymu było tutaj bagnisko zasilane przepływającą w pobliżu rzeką. With the fall of the Roman Empire, the Roman Forum also began to lose its importance. The first blow at the Forum was delivered by the Visigoths during the 410 AD invasion of Rome. Another blow was the earthquake that destroyed most of the buildings there. From the Middle Ages until the nineteenth century AD, the entire Roman Forum was a truly forgotten and degraded area of the city. In fact, such an absurd situation happened here that in the 18th century this place was intended for grazing cattle. It did not bother anyone too much, as the vast majority of the buildings were already in ruins, or were completely buried. The first excavations were started in 1803 and continue to this day with breaks. Some buildings that now stand out proudly above the surface of the Roman Forum, just over 100 years ago were buried at 80 percent of their height.

Wraz z upadkiem imperium rzymskiego również Forum Romanum zaczęło tracić na swoim znaczeniu. Pierwszy cios na Forum zadali Wizygoci podczas najazdu na Rzym z roku 410 naszej ery. Kolejnym ciosem było trzęsienie ziemi które zburzyło większość budowli tam znajdujących się. Od średniowiecza aż do XIX wieku naszej ery całe forum Romanum było iście zapomnianym i zdegradowanym obszarem miasta. Doszło tu wręcz to tak absurdalnej sytuacji, że w XVIII wieku miejsce to przeznaczone było do wypasu bydła. Nikomu to za bardzo nie przeszkadzało, gdyż znacząca większość budowli była już w ruinie, lub była całkowicie zasypana. Pierwsze prace wykopaliskowe zapoczątkowano w roku 1803 i z przerwami trwają aż do dnia dzisiejszego. Niektóre budowle które obecnie dumnie prezentują się wystając ponad powierzchnie Forum Romanum, jeszcze nieco ponad 100 lat temu były zakopane w 80procentach swojej wysokości.
