It was January 2021 and I sat bored at home, like most people. Corona was in full swing, I only fight with my boyfriend at the time, it was just getting on my nerves and the blanket fell on my head.😵💫 I think many can understand that...what could I do..I wanted to enjoy my life and not let anyone or anything dictate that I have to sit at home.
So I booked a flight to Brazil, you ask yourself why Brazil? Because I didn't want to stay in Europe (cold everywhere) and the flight to Brazil was extremely cheap!
everyone I told I'd leave said: whaaat why Brazil , so far away and soooo dangerous, and why alone, that's no fun! Have you ever been there? No, of course not! Have you ever traveled alone? No, of course not! It was supposed to start 2 weeks later...
At the airport, I noticed for the first time what I was doing right now,
I was flying alone to Brazil for 7 weeks !!!
panicked a bit, i called my sister, she calmed me down and said i was going to have a great time. The flight was perfect. I grabbed the very last row and was able to lie down comfortably for the 12 hours, watched sex and the city, parts 1 and 2, then I slept for about 6 hours and woke up on time to eat. It felt like I had landed in brazil with a snap of my fingers.
By the way, I ended up in Sao Paulo, I wanted to spend the first days in Santos, a small coastal town near Sao Paulo, I've already found out where the bus departs from at home and found the bus station surprisingly quickly. After a bus ride of about 1 hour, I arrived at the bus station in Santos. Incidentally, I have never experienced such great bus rides as in Brazil, the landscape is so breathtakingly beautiful and spacious, so green and just beautiful !!

I first went to the beach, relaxed, fell asleep, and woke up a short time later by 3 police cars around me. I thought "what the hell, what's going on now.. now I'm being arrested in the first hour of my trip"😵💫 it turned out that the state of Sao Paulo was in lockdown at the time. I I noticed that from the fact that all the restaurants were closed. The supermarkets were open as usual and there was life on the streets!
The funny thing is that only lying on the beach was forbidden, you were allowed to sit on chairs...ok, funny, it's only one of the many disturbing corona rules!
I met dear Silke on the first evening in my hostel, our two places of residence in Germany are only 25 km apart, the world is small, we are still in contact today ❤️

The next day I decided to take the bus to the state of Rio de Janeiro. There were almost no restrictions there. I spent the first 10 days in an old coastal town called Paraty. I lay the first days on the beach and did nothing. I only read my book, and the police didn't come again ;) I had a great hostel right on the beach, met some girls and boys, and went on different trips with them to other beaches, but there wasn't really much going on in the small town..

I had seen everything after a few days and my book was finished, so I went to a new place: The island Ilha Grande. Arrived on the island, I was shocked at how beautiful it looked. Turquoise blue water surrounded by the green trees on the island, in between the light sand. Amazing!! I had to walk along the beach to get to my hostel. I was glad, and not for the first time, that I didn't have a suitcase with me but only a small backpack.

Unfortunately, there were only Portuguese people on the island or rather in my hostel, did I already mention that I don't speak Portuguese? It was a bit boring. I set out the next day to explore the island. I heard about the most beautiful beach on the island, which you could reach via a jungle path across the island, exactly the right thing for me, I wanted to finally see some Brazilian animals🐒
So I started walking. After the first 15 minutes I looked up at a liana that was hanging over the path and saw a huge spider hanging in its web. I was so shocked because it was so unexpected, I even briefly considered whether I should go back again, but I pulled myself together and went on ... with every raindrop that fell from the trees from the previous evening, I jumped because I thought it was a spider haha.

The jungle was incredibly loud, some animals sounded like a circular saw, that was crazy. I also saw a little squirrel. On the way to the Lopez Mendes beach we drove past 3 other beaches... I took a break on the 2nd beach and sat down in a small beach bar.

Just as I was about to continue walking, 2 guys overtook me with loud music, I found it a bit annoying... but should be happy a little later than they were walking along the path in front of me.
A few meters later they said to me: "Hey watch out, bend down!" I didn't understand anything at first, but when I came closer I saw a huge spider's web hanging exactly at head height over the path. I would never have seen the net alone, I would have walked straight in and moved on with the spider and web on my head😵💫🤦♀️Finally, I arrived at the beach, which was totally beautiful. The beaches in Brazil somehow reminded me of the Jurassic park scenery all the time.

The hike was longer than I thought. It was about 2.5-3 hours. I fell asleep directly in the blazing sun. After an hour and a bit with a slight sunburn, I woke up. I thought of the way back and didn't feel like staggering all back again. I asked someone if there were boats back. Luckily there were, on the third beach I had already passed.

I walked a bit along the beach and met the guys from before, they were jewelry sellers, I talked to them a little more or at least tried to because they didn't speak English, and as I said, I don't speak Portuguese. As a reminder of the day, I of course bought an anklet from them :)I fell asleep again...sleeping on the beach is one of my hobbies😁 after about an hour I got up again and saw that the beach was a lot emptier than before, that was because the sky was very gray and dark. I quickly ran back to the 3rd beach and right when I was in the boat it started to rain, the drops of water hurt my skin like hailstones, but I was glad that I got another boat and didn't have to sleep lonely on the beach haha.

I thought my hike was perfectly timed because it rained for the next few days, but I still had a good time, which I had spent with a nice Dutch woman. But after a few days, I had seen everything from the small island and it didn't stop raining, so I set off for the next adventure, Rio de Janeiro 💃
You can find out how it goes on on my trip alone through Brazil in my next story. I hope you had fun reading, I would be happy about a like or a subscription!
