Pompeii is a place that has definitely been trapped in time, when we walk through what was once one of the most important cities of the Roman era we realize that it is an experience that any traveler deserves to experience. Its shocking and sad history, a city completely in ruins and in the background the views of Mount Vesuvius with an imposing green color make this city a wonderful destination.
In my first visit to Italy, besides touring Rome and Naples, I had the chance to visit the lush ruins of the city of Pompeii, a place that was completely buried as a result of a disastrous eruption of the Vesuvius volcano in 79 AD.
And being in that place, it is the perfect start to venture out and explore Pompeii, having advantages that it is only less than 30 km away and with a cost of a train of 1.40 €, plus the tour serves as an alternative to escape from the burden that has the city of Naples and then I will tell you about it and it is ideal time to be seduced by the beautiful views of the Gulf of Naples, having panoramic views of several beautiful beaches to reach our destination.

Once we have arrived at the train station, we walk about 20 minutes to what are the ticket offices of entry to this beautiful UNESCO heritage, making the basic payment of 22 €, they give us a ticket, a map with all the points of the place distributed by areas and all the itineraries of the activities that take place inside and so in this way we can plan our entire visit. Reviewing the maps and points of interest we noticed that there are many types of routes that can be done, in a second map that they give us marks the most complex route which indicates that it could take about 7 hours, so you can imagine how immense this place can be. I have opted for a visit a little more basic, marking the sites of greatest tourist interest and between walks, breaks and give me time for photographs and I have done it in a time of 4 hours approximately.

Pompeii offers travelers, residents, adults, children and the public of any kind one of the most complete and enriching archaeological experiences that can exist anywhere in the world, what is most important and the value that this city has is not mainly its historical tragedy, but this city to be trapped in fiery lava has been preserved in such a way that gives to think of the saying that says rising like the phoenix or something like that goes, depending on the country where you read me possibly say otherwise.

During our walk we will find some places that stand out by themselves, such as the Temple of Vespasian, the Temple of Jupiter and the ruins of what was the Basilica all these very close to the main square, in which stands out by itself the statue of a Centaur. The forum in the main square makes us imagine how was the main center of this huge city. On one side, we have the Vesuvius in the background, which in itself from here this image is ostentatious and on the other side around us the civil and religious buildings that worked there, in addition to the temples mentioned above, there was also a Supreme Court which is where all commercial transactions were conducted for the livelihood of the people who lived here.

Leaving a little from this area of the ruins, looking for some shade and a place to sit and rest, besides eating a snack, I found a road full of tall trees and checking the map I saw that this led us to the Amphitheater of Pompeii. I tell you that this is another wonder that leaves us impressed, being one of the oldest in the world I must tell you that it is very well preserved and it is here where more than thirty thousand people witnessed the most popular and particular gladiator fights.

It is exciting to have the joy of entering, stand in the middle of the arena where they fought all those gladiators of Roman times (as a fact I tell you that we can not do this in the Colosseum in Rome) and imagine how back then a huge number of people filled all these stands to delight and entertain themselves with the so-called games, which were nothing more than a fight of these gladiators against a number of animals. Although it sounds very cruel since we are now in an era in favor of the defense of animal rights, if you are also a fan of movies like Gladiator or similar as I am, I can tell you that this is quite an experience.
In summary, I can tell you that a visit to the city of Pompeii will help us a lot to understand and see the destructive power of a volcano, which not only managed to bury Pompeii, but also other nearby towns completely and that today, despite the years, similar phenomena continue to occur in many countries. And it is impossible not to wonder why there are people who still live here after all that happened?, because I think the answer to that question is that despite these natural disasters that end up ending with everything, then these experiences bring positive things with the passage of time and then take a better version of what it was before. Pompeya es un lugar que en definitiva ha quedado atrapada en el tiempo, cuando caminamos por lo que en su momento fue una de las ciudades más importantes de la época romana nos damos cuenta de que es una experiencia que cualquier viajero merece experimentar. Su impactante y triste historia, una ciudad completamente en ruinas y al fondo las vistas del Monte Vesubio con un color verde imponente convierten a esta ciudad en un destino maravilloso.
Y es que estando en ese lugar, es el inicio perfecto para aventurarme y explorar Pompeya, teniendo ventajas de que solo está a menos de 30 KM de distancia y con un costo de un tren de 1,40 €, además el recorrido nos sirve de alternativa de escapar del agobio que tiene la ciudad de Nápoles y que luego les contare de ello y es momento ideal de dejarnos seducir por las hermosas vistas del Golfo de Nápoles, teniendo unas vistas panorámicas de diversas playas hermosas hasta llegar a nuestro destino.

Una vez que hemos llegado a la estación de tren, caminamos unos 20 minutos hasta lo que son las taquillas de entrada a este hermoso patrimonio de la UNESCO, realizando el pago básico de 22 €, nos entregan una entrada, un mapa con todos los puntos del lugar distribuido por zonas y todos los itinerarios de las actividades que se desarrollan dentro y así de esta manera podremos planificar toda nuestra visita. Revisando los mapas y los puntos de interés notamos que hay muchos tipos de rutas que se pueden hacer, en un segundo mapa que nos entregan marca la ruta más compleja de lo cual indica que podría tener unas 7 horas de duración, así que ya pueden imaginar lo inmenso que puede llegar a ser este lugar. Yo he optado por una visita un poco más básica, marcando los sitios de mayor interés turístico y entre caminatas, descansos y darme tiempo para fotografías y lo he realizado en un tiempo de 4 horas aproximadamente.

Pompeya nos ofrece a los viajeros, residentes, adultos, niños y al público de cualquier índole una de las experiencias de tipo arqueológicas más completas y enriquecedoras que puede existir en cualquier lugar del mundo, lo que mayor importancia y el valor que tiene esta ciudad no es principalmente su tragedia histórica, si no que esta ciudad al quedar atrapada en lava ardiente se ha conservado de tal manera, que da a pensar en el dicho que dice resurgiendo como el ave fénix o algo así va, depende del país en que me leas posiblemente lo digan de otra manera.
Visitar Pompeya es caminar por sus calles empedradas, la cual son las mismas por donde transitaban los romanos hace muchos años atrás, recorriendo estas angostas calles fácilmente nos imaginamos y trasladamos a esa parte de la historia, sentimos como era la ciudad en ese entonces, lo prospera, lo dinámica y llena de vida, es que es muy notable la cantidad de movimiento económico que existía en esa ciudad, con solo cerrar los ojos se siente como si las personas aun estuviesen vivas y si nos concentramos un poco más podemos percibir los lamentos de las personas que intentaron salvarse de aquel trágico desastre natural.

Durante nuestra caminata encontraremos unos lugares que destacan por sí solo, como lo es el Templo de Vespasiano, El Templo de Júpiter y las ruinas de lo que fue la Basílica todos estos muy cercano a la plaza principal, en la cual destaca por si sola la estatua de un Centauro. El foro que está en la plaza principal nos hace imaginar cómo era el centro principal de esta enorme ciudad. Por un lado, tenemos el Vesubio al fondo, que de por si desde acá esta imagen es ostentosa y por otro lado a nuestro alrededor los edificios civiles y religiosos que allí funcionaban, además de los templos mencionados anteriormente, también se encontraba un Tribunal Supremo que es donde se realizaban todas las transacciones comerciales del sustento de las personas que acá vivían.

Saliendo un poco de esta zona de las ruinas, en busca un poco de sombra y un lugar para sentarme y descansar, además de comer algún bocadillo, me encontré un camino lleno de altos árboles y revisando el mapa veía que este nos llevaba al Anfiteatro de Pompeya. Les comento que esta es otra maravilla que nos deja impresionado, al ser uno de los más antiguo del mundo debo decirles que se encuentra muy buen conservado y es aquí donde más de treinta mil personas presenciaban las más populares y particulares luchas de los gladiadores.

Es emocionante tener la dicha de entrar, pararnos en mitad de la arena donde luchaban todos esos gladiadores de la época romana (que como dato les adelanto que esto no lo podemos hacer en el Coliseo de la Ciudad de Roma) e imaginarnos cómo en aquel entonces una cantidad enorme de personas llenaban todas estas gradas para deleitarse y entretenerse con los mal llamados juegos, que no eran más que una lucha de estos gladiadores contra una cantidad animales. Aunque suene muy cruel ya que ahora estamos en una época en pro de la defensa de los derechos de los animales, si también eres un apasionado de las películas como Gladiador o similares como lo soy yo, pues te adelanto que esto es toda una experiencia.
En resumen, te puedo decir que una visita a la ciudad de Pompeya nos ayudara mucho a entender y ver el poder destructivo que tiene un volcán, que no solo consiguió enterrar a Pompeya, sino también a otros pueblos cercanos por completo y que hoy en día a pesar de los años, fenómenos similares siguen ocurriendo en muchos países. Y es que es imposible no preguntarse ¿por qué hay personas que aún vive aquí luego de todo lo ocurrido?, pues creo que la respuesta a tal interrogante es que a pesar de estos desastres naturales que terminan acabando con todo, luego estas experiencias aportan cosas positivas con el paso del tiempo y sacan luego una mejor versión de lo que era antes.
