En nuestro cuarto día de viaje por La Gran Sabana, luego de haber pasado la mañana y gran parte de la tarde en lugares con cascadas y ríos tal como les mostré en las dos publicaciones anteriores de esta serie, fuimos a visitar otros puntos emblemáticos y digamos más citadinos que hay que ver si estás por aquí.
At about 3:30 in the afternoon we arrived at the border between Venezuela and Brazil, a place known as La Línea (The Line). It is located about 15 km from Santa Elena de Uairén, the only city-type population in La Gran Sabana.
Más o menos a las 3:30 de la tarde llegamos a la frontera entre Venezuela y Brasil, un lugar conocido como La Línea. Se encuentra a unos 15 Km de Santa Elena de Uairén, la única población tipo ciudad de La Gran Sabana.
I had known this place a few years before after doing the excursion to the Roraima tepui and on that occasion I also crossed the border on foot to visit the small Brazilian town that is nearby, Pacaraima. This time, due to time constraints, we were only in La Línea, something that disappointed my sister because she wanted to cross to the other side, however we had a pleasant time there, the guide told us a little about the history of the place and we took several photos.
Yo había conocido este sitio unos años antes luego de hacer la excursión al tepuy Roraima y en esa ocasión también crucé la frontera a pie para conocer el pequeño pueblo brasileño que está allí cerca, Pacaraima. Esta vez por cuestiones de tiempo solamente estuvimos en La Línea, algo que decepcionó a mi hermana porque quería cruzar al otro lado, sin embargo pasamos un rato agradable allí, el guía nos habló un poco de la historia del lugar e hicimos varias fotos.
What can we see there? Not much, before the part where there are the typical controls of a border crossing, the Main Ecological Customs of Santa Elena de Uairén, there is on the right side of the road a monument with flags and busts in homage to the maximum figures of the independence of each country, on one side the Liberator Simón Bolívar (Venezuela) and on the other Pedro I or Don Pedro (Brazil).
¿Qué podemos ver allí? No mucho, antes de la parte donde se encuentran los controles típicos de un paso fronterizo, la Aduana Principal Ecológica de Santa Elena de Uairén, está en el lado derecho de la carretera un monumento con las banderas y los bustos en homenaje a las máximas figuras de la independencia de cada país, por un lado el Libertador Simón Bolívar (Venezuela) y por el otro Pedro I o Don Pedro (Brasil).
You can go up some stairs to the monument and observe a little of the movement that happens here, not only commercial (it is Free Port) but also of people. Something that caught my attention was the sale of money, there were several men around changing Brazilian currency (reais), dollars, euros, bolivars, etc., and they approached you waving the bills as if they were a fan, walking exchange houses hahaha.
Por unas escaleras se puede subir al monumento y observar un poco el movimiento que ocurre aquí, no sólo comercial (es Puerto Libre) sino de personas. Algo que me llamó la atención fue la venta de dinero, había varios hombres por allí cambiando la moneda brasileña (reais), dólares, euros, bolívares, etc., y se te acercaban agitando los billetes como si fueran un abanico, casas de cambio ambulantes jajaja.
Although this is the legal access route between the two countries, this border is a total of 2,199 km long along savannahs, rivers and mountains, so it must be difficult to control it considering the mineral wealth and precious metals that this region has, such as gold or diamonds and the illegal trade that these have generated over the years.
Aunque esta es la vía de acceso legal entre ambos países, esta frontera tiene un total de 2.199 Km de longitud a lo largo de sabanas, ríos y montañas, por lo que debe ser difícil controlarla considerando las riquezas minerales y los metales preciosos que tiene esta región como oro o diamantes y el comercio ilegal que estos han generado a lo largo de los años.
The tourism that arrives here does it more than anything to be photographed between the two flags, perhaps cross to eat something typical Brazilian in the restaurants that are in Pacaraima or also buy there products such as drinks, handicrafts, clothing.
El turismo que llega hasta aquí lo hace más que todo para fotografiarse entre las dos banderas, quizás cruzar a comer algo típico brasileño en los restaurantes que hay en Pacaraima o también comprar allí productos como bebidas, artesanías, ropa.
We spent about an hour in La Línea and then we went to see a very famous place in Santa Elena de Uairén: The House of Crystals.
Estuvimos como una hora en La Línea y luego nos fuimos a conocer un lugar muy famoso en Santa Elena de Uairén: La Casa de los Cristales.
This kind of museum is on Roscio street and when you enter you can see hundreds of quartz crystals of all sizes.
Esta especie de museo queda en la calle Roscio y al entrar puedes ver cientos de cristales de cuarzo de todos los tamaños.
You can also learn about its uses to direct energies thanks to the guidance they give you and also if you want, buy some rough piece (without carving) at really low, symbolic prices.
También puedes aprender sobre sus usos para direccionar energías gracias a la guiatura que te dan y además si quieres, comprar alguna pieza en bruto (sin tallar) a precios realmente bajos, simbólicos.
This house belongs to Caliope, daughter of Lucas Fernández Peña, who founded Santa Elena de Uairén in 1923. Her family has a concession to exploit a quartz mine in this region and that is where they extract these rocks. Caliope, a very kind lady, took us on a tour of the inside and outside of this museum, in the backyard they have a beautiful garden where quartz is also the protagonist.
Esta casa pertenece a Caliope, hija de Lucas Fernández Peña, quien fundó Santa Elena de Uairén en el año 1923. Su familia posee una concesión para explotar una mina de cuarzo en esta región y es de ahí que extraen estas rocas. Caliope, una señora muy amable, nos hizo el recorrido por la parte interna y externa de este museo, en el patio trasero tienen un bellísimo jardín donde los cuarzos también son protagonistas.
As she explained to us, quartz takes away negative energies from people and gives them a positive vibe. The serenity of Mrs. Calliope made me fully believe in this. My sister was fascinated here because she loves stones and knows the properties that many of them have, she bought one to give it to me, very pretty, when looking at it with the light it seems to have a mountain landscape trapped there, I loved it.
Según nos explicó, el cuarzo se lleva las energías negativas de las personas y les otorga una vibra positiva. La serenidad de la señora Caliope me hizo creer plenamente en esto. Mi hermana estaba fascinada aquí porque ella ama las piedras y conoce las propiedades que tienen muchas de ellas, compró una para regalármela, muy bonita, al observarla con la luz parece tener como un paisaje de montaña atrapado allí, me encantó.
At the end of our visit to The House of Crystals we all went to the garden where there are 13 tree trunks with very large quartz on them. There the hostess organized with us an “energy circle”, moment in which we held hands and closed our eyes for a few minutes to charge ourselves with positive things.
Al final de nuestra visita a La Casa de los Cristales fuimos todos al jardín donde hay 13 troncos de árboles con cuarzos muy grandes encima. Allí la anfitriona organizó con nosotros un “círculo de energía”, momento en el que nos tomamos de las manos y cerramos los ojos por unos minutos para cargarnos de cosas positivas.
