The end of May and beginning of June this year was rainy and cold. On the whole, it was not particularly joyful: we already have a short summer, every week counts. I wanted to put on a light blouse and enjoy the warmth and sunshine, but I had to put on a sweater and a jacket, and take an umbrella with me. But suddenly it turned out that these weather anomalies led not only to bad, but also to some pleasant results. Namely, the blooming of lilacs, chestnuts and apple trees this year was longer than usual.
Lilacs are still blooming, and even in the middle of June you can walk along yards and boulevards and admire bunches of lilac flowers. Of course, this applies only to Persian lilacs, which are the last to bloom - earlier varieties of lilacs have already bloomed. The best place to admire lilacs in our city is the Field of Mars. The Field of Mars is a large square in the center of St. Petersburg with flat lawns and lilac bushes along the alleys.
I was walking towards the Field of Mars from the side of Nevsky Prospect, past Maple Alley. I turned into alleys or courtyards several times, noticing another lilac bush. I passed the exhibition hall, at the entrance there is an unusual board with mirrors, it is an announcement of a new exhibition. In the depths of the mirrors the surrounding landscape is reflected, and I am standing in the center - but the reflection turned out to be small, and it is impossible to see details.
Early lilac bushes grow along the main alleys and in the center of the Field of Mars, and late lilac bushes are planted along the borders of the square. The four lilac clumps in the corners of the square are especially nice. An oak tree grows in the center of each, a small space is left around it for comfortable benches, and lilac bushes are planted along the perimeter. I was in no hurry, I walked slowly from one flower clump to another, occasionally stopping to take a few photos.
Near the far edge of the Field of Mars, I noticed an interesting genre scene: a local resident came here to feed the birds. Perhaps she was going to feed the pigeons. First, a crow flew in and began insistently asking for a treat. Then a seagull joined the feast on the lawn, and the other birds moved aside - a seagull is a rather dangerous predator with a powerful beak.
Meanwhile, the weather began to turn bad. At the beginning of my walk the sky was clear blue with white clouds. But the further I went, the darker the color of the sky became, and instead of white clouds there were gray-blue clouds. I realized that it was time to end the walk - and indeed, it soon began to rain quite heavily.
