Earlier this year, my friends and I went on an adventure to Osun State, Nigeria, to explore one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been to Erin Ijesha Waterfall!
We decided to use a weekend to explore and escape the hustle and bustle of Lagos. So, on a Friday afternoon, we packed our bags, grabbed some snacks, and hit the road. It was about a 5-hour drive from Lagos to Erin Ijesha, and the journey itself was a vibe. We made the road trip part of the adventure.
By the time we arrived in Osun, it was already late in the evening. We checked into a nearby hotel to pass the night. We took a short walk around the village, doing a bit of sightseeing. It felt peaceful, a huge contrast to the noise and speed of city life.
The next morning, we made our way to the waterfall. From the moment we got close, the atmosphere changed. The air felt lighter, cleaner. Nature had fully taken over here. Birds chirping, trees stretching high above us, and that distinct sound of rushing water in the distance.
The hike up the falls was a challenge. The terrain was rough in places steep, rocky, and slippery. But that made it even more fun.
We were helping each other climb, laughing at our near falls, and stopping often just to take in the stunning views.
We climbed higher, and the sound of the waterfall grew louder until finally we saw it.
The waterfall was breathtaking. I ran under it, screaming from the cold and laughing like a child.
Others just sat on nearby rocks, letting the cool mist hit their faces. For a moment, everything felt still like nothing else in the world mattered but that exact moment.
What made it even more special was that I wasn’t alone. Sharing that experience with friends, joking around, taking group photos, and just enjoying the moment made it unforgettable. It was one of those rare times when everything feels right.
After hours of hiking, chilling, and just being in the moment, we wrapped up our time at the waterfall and headed to a small local restaurant. We spent the rest of the evening back at the hotel, rewatching our videos and laughing at the day’s events.
The next morning, before heading back to Lagos, we made a short trip to a nearby town to visit a lake.
Erin Ijesha gave us more than a fun day. It gave us memories I’ll hold onto for a long time. I’ll definitely be back again.
