Monument of the Battle of the Nations, past and present, defeat and victory, courage and fear in Leipzig, Germany
Hello everyone
A few days ago I returned from my summer holiday this year and I can't help but share one of the places I visited in Leipzig, Germany.
While the image of this place is still fresh in my mind I would like to share with you one of the most important monuments, namely the Monument of the Battle of the Nations (Völkerschlachtdenkmal).
I had read very little about this monument and didn't really know much about it, but pushed by the back of the friends I was on holiday with I decided to pay it a visit.
Germany is an amazing country but also a very big one in which you can easily get lost admiring the beauties it offers at every turn, so our trips through this country we made by personal car.
Travelling here by car can sometimes generate quite high costs (here I mean the price of fuel but also the price of parking).
Without thinking too much we put the location of this monument on the Gps and we set off on the road, from the accommodation to there it took about 30-35 minutes.
We were a bit nervous when we were close enough to find a parking space (even with payment) but to our amazement right next door we found a very large free parking lot.
Visiting this place starts with an easy climb when at one point between the trees the Monument of the Battle of the Nations stands tall, at first sight it seemed fabulous.
But let's go closer.
Right in front of the monument we saw a lake (or a pool) quite large in which this monument is mirrored and on the opposite side with the monument we can find a bar with a beer garden and toilets of course.
Following the dusty road we get closer and closer to the monument and it gets bigger and more imposing, I get even closer, I am amazed by its architecture and the details of the war scenes.
From what I have read this monument is over 90 meters high and is one of the largest in Europe.
I will leave you a picture explaining exactly the composition of this monument.
Unintentionally I also captured on the left of the picture a recreational plane😉
From here you can buy tickets or even if you want to go home with a souvenir.
The price of a ticket to go inside is 10euro/person which you can buy at the information desk and souvenir shop, unfortunately we didn't go inside, we just admired it from the outside.
If for some reason you can't climb the 500 steps, don't worry, the monument has an elevator that will help you get inside, so come here.
In addition I also climbed the few hundred stairs to see the panorama that opens up looking towards the lake and surroundings, it's fantastic.
I leave it to you to discover this monument inside if you visit Leipzig or other nearby cities, it really is worth it.
More than that you can relax sitting on the chair on the opposite side of the monument and admire it in all its splendour however our visit here has come to an end, we take the car and return to the hotel.
If you liked what you saw and read here please don't forget to give a LiKe, Follow, reBlog or a Comment, for all this I thank you, and until the next post I say goodbye.
P.S. The attached pictures you have just seen are taken by me with my mobile phone, and the text is also designed by me.
