This is Kinnaur Valley and it is approx 235 km away from Shimla and me along with my friends planned a road trip to Kinnaur as we have heard a lot about the dangerous and narrow roads of Kinnaur. In the picture above you can see roads of Kinnaur from a distance and making roads in these mountains is itself a task and its really a dangerous one. Kudos to those who created these roads and it is NH 5 formally NH 22 and it is known as Tibet-Hindustan highway.
Travelling through the roads of kinar Valley is thrilling and challenging as you will see dangerous spots, rugged mountains and what not. Most of the roads are made out of Cliff and it become really difficult to overtake as the roads are single lane and its risky.
If you are among those who faces issue at high altitude which is altitude sickness, then these roads are definitely not for you. I myself have never imagine that these roads can be so dangerous even I am driving in the roads of Himalayas since ages now and driving here literally gave chills.
There were lots of tourist spots where people are taking pictures with dangerous mountains and cliffs in background. They were enjoying the beauty of mountains and the Kinnaur Valley which itself is splendid and breathtaking in everyday.
Also there were Tibetan flags at these famous tourist spots spreading love and joy through the wind that blows here. This flags promote love peace and it is believe that they protect every tourist visiting here.
In these pictures you can see the huge rocks along the road and the huge rock behind the road. It's a combination of danger and adventure for me. I was driving on Hindustan Tibet highway which is NH5 and what I witnessed next was literally breathtaking and nerve-wracking.
Along the Sutlej river this NH connect Shimla and Kinnaur and further towards the Spiti Valley near tranda village in Kinnaur is most dangerous and breathtaking road to me. You can see the roads are made on cliff, huge mountains and those who created this roads are really Brave.
The road is actually covered at a cliff which is chief and vertical and it features a hanging rock creating natural tunnels and the view and experience both are really dramatic as well as insane. Even a slide landslide during monsoon can cause lots of harm and it is advised to avoid visiting days areas during monsoon if you are not local and don't know how to handle such situation.
It is a long the Sutlej river and if you step out of the car you can see the beautiful river flowing along the road and the inspiring view of the Kinnaur Valley.
The mountains around the valley are Baran and drugged but at some point you will also see lush greenery and dense forest.
These roads are as dramatic as you can imagine, some time the they widened and sometime they are narrow and only one vehicle can cross throw that space at a time. Curves are so deep and if you are not driving carefully it can be really dangerous. For those who love road trips along with adventure you should definitely travel to Kinnaur throw this NH once. Taranda Dhank road is so famous that it has been documented and in most travel blogs you will see people visiting this place and posting happily about it. Well I recommend you to bring a experienced driver with you as the road is narrow at some point.
Apart from the dangerous road the NH offer the beautiful and panoramic view of the valley. These jaw dropping mountains and landscape make people stop and stair and lots of traveller often stop to take pictures of the beauty of Kinnaur.
