As I mentioned in my travel posts last year, I don't like the vacation format that goes between hotel, sea and foods. I want to discover new places at homeland or abroad as much as possible. Before the pandemic, I traveled abroad every year. However, the pandemic caused millions of people, including me, to change their travel plans for at least 2 years. After the pandemic, it was time for me to start traveling abroad. Last year, I did this by going to Thessaloniki, Greece. This year, my first choice for traveling abroad was again Thessaloniki and some of Cycladic Islands in Greece. In the second part of my travel post series, I will write about Chora (Old Town), the center of Naxos, one of the Cyclades Islands.

Geçen seneki seyahat yazılarımda da belirttiğim gibi otel, deniz ve yemek arasında geçip giden tatil anlayışını sevmiyorum. Yurtiçinde veya yurtdışında mümkün olduğunca yeni yerler keşfetmek istiyorum. Pandemiden önce her yıl yurtdışı seyahatleri yapan biriydim. Fakat, pandemi benim gibi dünyada milyonlarca insanların seyahat planlarını en az 2 yıl değiştirmesine sebep oldu. Pandemiden sonra benim için artık yurtdışı seyahatlerime başlamanın zamanı gelmişti. Geçen sene bunu Yunanistan’ın Selanik şehrine giderek gerçekleştirdim. Bu yılki ilk yurtdışı seyahat tercihim yine Selanik ve Yunanistan’ın birkaç Kiklad Adası oldu. Gezi yazısı serimin ikinci bölümünde sizlere Kiklad Adalarından biri olan Naxos adasının merkezi, eski şehir Chora’dan bahsedeceğim.
We boarded the plane that would take us to Naxos Island with a 15-20 minute delay. To be honest, when I saw the plane we were going to board, I was a little nervous because it was an old model and relatively small plane. It was like our Anadolu Jet planes, maybe a Boeing 737 model. After about an hour of flying, we arrived at the airport of Naxos Island. Naxos Airport was the most interesting airport I have ever seen in my life. I can say that it consists of only three shacks. I was happy that we landed safely :) Since we had hand luggage, we didn’t need to wait for the luggage. We bargained with the taxi drivers to go to the hotel where we would stay. We agreed on a fee of 10 EUR for the five-minute ride. When we arrived at the hotel, the owner of the hotel welcomed us at the door. After getting some information about Naxos from the owner of the hotel, we started walking towards the Chora old town, the center of Naxos Island, with a map in our hand, to both tour the island and eat something. These were the first photos from the island.
15-20 dakika rötar ile bizi Naxos adasına götürecek uçağa biniş yaptık. Açıkcası bineceğimiz uçağı görünce ben biraz tedirgin oldum çünkü uçak eski model ve nispeten küçük bir uçaktı. Bizim Anadolu Jet’in uçakları gibiydi, Boeing 737 model olabilir. Yaklaşık bir saatlik uçusun ardından Naxos adasının hava limanına varmıştık. Naxos hava limanı hayatımda gördüğüm en ilginç hava limanıydı. Adeta üç tane barakadan ibaretti diyebilirim. Sağ sağlim iniş yaptığımız için mutluydum : ) El bagajlarımız olduğu için valizleri beklememize gerek yoktu. Kalacağımız otele gitmek için taksicilerle pazarlık yaptık. Beş dakikalık mesafe için 10 EUR ücrette anlaştık. Otele vardığımızda, otelin sahibi bizi kapıda karşıladı. Otelin sahibinden Naxos hakkında biraz bilgi aldıktan sonra hem adayı gezmek hem de bir şeyler yemek için elimizde harita ile Naxos adasının merkezi, eski şehir Chora’ya doğru yürümeye başladık. Adadan ilk fotoğraflar bu şekildeydi.
The most distinctive feature of the Cyclades Islands of Greece is that streets are painted with white paint in the shape of snakes before each tourist season. The fact that the streets are like this is really pleasing to the eye. The island of Naxos is called Nakşa in Turkish. According to Greek mythology, Zeus was born on Mount Zas, the highest mountain in Naxos. I can say that we got lost in the narrow streets of Naxos with a map in hand. Every shop sells either souvenirs or food and drinks. Let me also state that; the prices on the Greek islands are 2-3 or even 4 times higher than that of the mainland. After eating at a fine restaurant, we continued walking through the white-painted houses, shops and streets of Naxos.
Yunanistan’ın Kiklad Adaları’nın en belirgin özelliği, sokakların yılan şeklinde beyaz boya ile her turizm sezonu öncesi boyanmasıdır. Sokakların bu şekilde olması gerçekten göze hoş geliyor. Naxos adası Türkçe’de Nakşa olarak adlandırılır. Yunan mitolojisine göre Zeus, Naxos’un en yüksek dağı olan Zas Dağı’nda doğmuştur. Biz elimizde harite ile Naxos’un dar sokaklarında kaybolduk diyebilirim. Her dükkan ya hediyelik ya da yiyecek-içecek satıyor. Şunu da belirteyim; Yunan adalarında fiyatlar, anakaradaki fiyatların 2-3 hatta 4 katı diyebilirim. Uygun bir restorantta yemek yedikten sonra Naxos’un beyaz boyalı evler, dükkanlar ve sokaklarında yürümeye devam ettik.
Our plan in Naxos was to stay for two days. We started walking slowly from Naxos center to the port. In order not to have any problems the next day, we wanted to check which port the ship was leaving from for our next destination. It was 6 o'clock. Naxos adasındaki planımız iki gün konaklamaktı. Yavaş yavaş Naxos merkezinden limanına doğru yürümeye başladık. Ertesi gün sorun yaşamamak adına bir sonraki destinasyonumuz için geminin hangi limandan kalktığına bakmak istedik. Saat altı olmuştu.
