As I mentioned in my travel posts last year, I don't like the vacation format that goes between hotel, sea and foods. I want to discover new places at homeland or abroad as much as possible. Before the pandemic, I traveled abroad every year. However, the pandemic caused millions of people, including me, to change their travel plans for at least 2 years. After the pandemic, it was time for me to start traveling abroad. Last year, I did this by going to Thessaloniki, Greece. This year, my first choice for traveling abroad was again Thessaloniki and some of Cycladic Islands in Greece. In the fifth part of my travel post series, I will write about Thira, the center of Santorini, one of the Cyclades Islands.

Geçen seneki seyahat yazılarımda da belirttiğim gibi otel, deniz ve yemek arasında geçip giden tatil anlayışını sevmiyorum. Yurtiçinde veya yurtdışında mümkün olduğunca yeni yerler keşfetmek istiyorum. Pandemiden önce her yıl yurtdışı seyahatleri yapan biriydim. Fakat, pandemi benim gibi dünyada milyonlarca insanların seyahat planlarını en az 2 yıl değiştirmesine sebep oldu. Pandemiden sonra benim için artık yurtdışı seyahatlerime başlamanın zamanı gelmişti. Geçen sene bunu Yunanistan’ın Selanik şehrine giderek gerçekleştirdim. Bu yılki ilk yurtdışı seyahat tercihim yine Selanik ve Yunanistan’ın birkaç Kiklad Adası oldu. Gezi yazımın beşinci bölümünde sizlere Kiklad Adaları’ndan biri olan Santorini adasının merkezinden, Thira’dan bahsedeceğim.
In order not to get lost in Santorini and not to miss the bus, we early went to the area where the tour buses were parked. The other tourists in the tour were also coming one by one. After our tour guide did the necessary checks and counted the people, we set off on the same bus towards the Thira region. We arrived in Thira at around 14:00 after a journey of about 20 minutes. We again got off at an area where the tour buses were parked. Our tour guide gave us three hours of free time. Since we were hungry, we first looked for a place to eat.
Santorini’de kaybolmamak ve otobüsü kaçırmamak için tur otobüslerinin park ettiği alana erkenden gitmiştik. Yavaş yavaş turdaki diğer turistler de gelmeye başlamıştı. Tur rehberimiz gerekli control ve kişi sayımını yaptıktan sonra aynı otobüsle Thira bölgesine doğru yola çıktık. Yaklaşık 20 dakikalık bir yolculuğun ardından öğleden sonra saat 14:00 Thira’ya varmıştık. Yine aynı şekilde burda da tur otobüslerinin park ettiği bir alanda indik. Tur rehberimiz bize üç saatlik serbest zaman verdi. Acıktığımız için biz öncelikle yemek yiyecek bir yer aradık.
Everywhere we looked, the prices of food and drink were 3-4 times higher and it was clear from the prices that Santorini is a really expensive island. We started walking in the busy bazaar of Thira where the stores are located. In Thira, every street that opens to the left, which is like a maze, takes you to unique views as in Oia. Here as well, people were competing with each other to take photos or have them taken. I tried to take photos from every angle I could find :)
Baktığımız her yerde, yiyecek-içecek fiyatları 3-4 kat fazlaydı ve Santorini’nin gerçekten pahalı bir ada olduğu buradan net anlaşılıyordu. Mağazaların bulunduğu Thira’nın işlek çarşısında yürümeye başladık. Thira’da da Oia gibi sol tarafa açılan, labirent gibi olan her sokak sizi eşsiz manzaralarına götürüyor. Burda da insanlar fotoğraf çekmek veya çektirmek için birbirleri ike yarışıyorlardı. Ben de fotoğraf açısı bulduğum heryerden fotoğraf çekmeye çalıştım : )
Metropolitan Church of Ypapanti Thira
I can say that tourists from all over the world came to visit both Oia and Thira. The weather was very hot and our necks and arms got tanned because we were constantly walking under the sun. We walked as much as we could and took very nice pictures from the Imerovigli viewpoint.
Gerek Oia’yı gerekse Thira’yı dünyanın her yerinden turist ziyaret etmeye gelmişti diyebilirim. Hava çok sıcaktı ve sürekli güneşin altında yürüdüğümüz için ensemiz ve kollarımız kızarmıştı. Yürüyebildiğimiz kadar yürüdük ve Imerovigli seyir noktasından çok güzel resimler çektik.
Church of Agios Stylianos
The time given to us was up quickly again. In order not to miss the bus, 45 minutes beforehand, we started walking back the way we came because we had walked a long distance. Such day trips are budget-friendly; however, they may not be satisfactory. If we consider the entire round trip, there is limited time left for sightseeing. For instance, we could not see the sunset in Santorini. Perhaps, it would make more sense to go to Santorini by plane. I can say that one might need to stay at least 2 days in order to explore Santorini entirely.
Bize verilen süre yine çabucak dolmuştu. Otobüsü kaçırmamak için 45 dakika önceden geldiğimiz yoldan geri yürümeye başladık çünkü uzun bir mesafeyi yürümüştük. Bu tür günübirlik turlar bütçeye uygun; ama tatmin edici olmayabilir. Tüm gidiş-dönüş yolculuğunu düşünürsek, gezmen için kısıtlı bir zaman kalıyor. Örneğin, Santorini’de gün batımını görememiştik. Belki, Santorini’ye uçakla gitmek daha mantıklı olabilir. Şunu söyleyebilirm ki Santorini’yi dolu dolu gezebilmek için en az 2 gün konaklamak gerekli.
Church of Agios Efstathios
We got on the bus at around four thirty and they brought us back to the port where they had picked us up. From there, we returned to Naxos Island after a three-hour sea voyage on the ship by which we came to Santorini. We had dinner at the port and went straight to the hotel to rest. We were very pleased with the Santorini tour. I hope to go back to Santorini some day for a longer vacation. See you in the next post of my of my Greece tour. All photos in this post belong to me. Saat dört buçuk gibi otobüse bindik ve otobüsle bizi aldıkları limana geri getirdiler. Buradan Santorini’ye geldiğimiz gemi ile üç saatlik bir deniz yolculuğunun ardından Naxos adasına geri döndük. Limanda akşam yemeği yedik ve dinlenmek için doğruca otele gittik. Santorini turundan çok memnun kalmıştık. Umarım bir gün daha uzun zamanlı bir tatilde Santorini’ye tekrar giderim.
