As I mentioned in my travel posts last year, I don't like the vacation format that goes between hotel, sea and foods. I want to discover new places at homeland or abroad as much as possible. Before the pandemic, I traveled abroad every year. However, the pandemic caused millions of people, including me, to change their travel plans for at least 2 years. After the pandemic, it was time for me to start traveling abroad. Last year, I did this by going to Thessaloniki, Greece. This year, my first choice for traveling abroad was again Thessaloniki and some of Cycladic Islands in Greece. In the fourth part of my travel post series, I will write about the Oia region in the north of Santorini, one of the Cyclades Islands.

Geçen seneki seyahat yazılarımda da belirttiğim gibi otel, deniz ve yemek arasında geçip giden tatil anlayışını sevmiyorum. Yurtiçinde veya yurtdışında mümkün olduğunca yeni yerler keşfetmek istiyorum. Pandemiden önce her yıl yurtdışı seyahatleri yapan biriydim. Fakat, pandemi benim gibi dünyada milyonlarca insanların seyahat planlarını en az 2 yıl değiştirmesine sebep oldu. Pandemiden sonra benim için artık yurtdışı seyahatlerime başlamanın zamanı gelmişti. Geçen sene bunu Yunanistan’ın Selanik şehrine giderek gerçekleştirdim. Bu yılki ilk yurtdışı seyahat tercihim yine Selanik ve Yunanistan’ın birkaç Kiklad Adası oldu. Gezi yazısı serimin dördüncü bölümünde sizlere Kiklad Adaları’ndan biri olan Santorini adasının kuzeyindeki Oia bölgesinden bahsedeceğim.
As you know, the day before, we had checked where to board the ship in Naxos port to go to Santorini. We left the hotel early in the morning and walked towards the port. We found the ship that would take us to Santorini in the port, got our boarding cards and boarded the ship. We had a long sea journey of three hours ahead of us. It was a one-day Santorini tour. In this tour, you can choose different languages as a guide. As everyone knows, Santorini is one of the very famous and expensive islands of Greece. Some day, I hope to have a holiday in Santorini with at least one night's accommodation :) The ship departed around 08:30. During this long three-hour journey, I took a few photos until we reached Santorini.
Biliyorsunuz bir önceki gün, Santorini’ye gitmek için Naxos limanında nereden gemiye bineceğimize bakmıştık. Sabah erkenden otelden ayrldık ve limana doğru yürüdük. Limanda bizi Santorini’ye götürecek gemiyi bulduk, biniş kartlarımızı alarak gemiye geçtik. Önümüzde üç saat gibi uzun bir deniz yolculuğu vardı. Biz günübirlik Santorini turu satın almıştık. Bu turda rehber olarak farklı diller seçebiliyorsunuz. Herkesin bildiği gibi Santorini Yunanistan’ın enünlü ve pahalı adalarından biri. Umarım bir gün en azından bir gece Santorini de konaklamalı tatil yaparım : ) Saat 08.30 gibi gemi hareket etti. Bu üç saatlik uzun yolculukta, Santorini’ye varana kadar birkaç fotoğraf çektim.
We were slowly approaching Santorini. Even from a distance, you could see how beautiful Santorini is and how colorful the houses are. As the ship approached Santorini, everyone was looking for a place to take photos, including me. I think most of the people on the ship were visiting Santorini for the first time like me. I can say that I took photos and videos until the ship anchored in the harbor : )
Yavaş yavaş Santorini’ye yaklaşıyorduk. Uzaktan da olsa Santorini’nin ne kadar güzel olduğu ve içinde rengarenk evlerin bulunduğu görülüyordu. Gemi Santorini’ye yaklaştıkça herkes fotoğraf çekmek için yer kapma arayışındaydı, tabi ben de. Sanırım gemideki çoğu kişi benim gibi Santorini’ye ilk defa geliyordu. Gemi limanda demir atana kadar fotoğraf ve video çektim diyebilirim : )
As you can see in the photos, Santorini is a volcanic island. It is the most famous island of the Cyclades Islands, along with Mykonos. The Greek name of the island is Thira. Santorini island consists of two main regions, Oia and Thira. After getting off the ship, we got on the buses separated according to the language of the tourist guides. We slowly went up from the side of the mountain you see in the photos above. I might not say it is a very safe road, it may be a problem for those who are afraid of heights; but I could already imagine what kind of views awaited us in Santorini.
Fotoğraflarda da gördüğünüz gibi Santorini volkanik bir adadır. Kiklad Adaları’nın Mykonos ile birlikte en ünlü adasıdır. Adanın Yunanca adı Thira’dır. Santorini adası, Oia ve Thira adında iki ana bölgeden oluşmaktadır. Gemiden indikten sonra turist rehberi diline göre ayrılmış otobüslere bindik. Yukardaki resimlerde gördüğünüz dağın kenarından otobüsle yavaş yavaş yukarı doğru çıktık. Hani çok güvenli bir yol diyemeyebilirim, yükseklik korkusu olanlar için sorun olabilir; ama daha şimdien Santorini’de bizi nasıl manzaraların beklediğini tahmin edebiiyordum.
Our first stop by bus was going to be the Oia region. During the approximately half-hour bus ride, our guide gave us information about Santorini. Since it is a volcanic island, the soil in the areas where agriculture can be done in Santorini is very rich in terms of minerals. He told us Santorini's tomatoes, watermelons and grapes were famous : ) After our bus arrived at the area where all the tour buses parked in Oia, our guide gave us two and a half hours of free time. Since our time was limited, I and my friend quickly started walking in the Oia bazaar where the stores were located. Every street that opens to the left, which is like a maze, takes you to the unique views of Santorini. So to speak, people were lined up here to take photo. I tried to take photo from every angle I could find : )
Otobüsle ilk durağımız Oia bölgesi olacaktı. Yaklaşık yarım saatlik otobüs yolculuğunda, rehberimiz bize Santorini hakkında bilgiler verdi. Volkanik bir ada olması nedeniyle Santorini’de tarım yapılabilen alanlarda toprak mineraller açısından çok zenginmiş. Santorini’nin domatesi, karpuzu ve üzümlerinin bize meşhur olduğunu söyledi : ) Otobüsümüz Oia’da tüm tur otobüslerinin park ettiği alana geldikten sonra rehberimiz tarafından iki buçuk saatlik serbest süre verdi. Zamanımız kısıtlı olduğu için arkadaşımla hemen dükkanların bulunduğu Oia çarşısında yürümeye başladık. Sol tarafa açılan, labirent gibi olan her sokak sizi Santorini’nin eşsiz manzaralarına götürüyor. Buralarda adeta insanlar fotoğraf çekmek için sıraya girmişti. Fotoğraf açısı bulduğum her açıdan fotoğraf çekmeye çalıştım : )

After about two hours of walking and struggling to take photos, we quickly started walking back to the area where the tour buses were parked so as not to miss the bus. If we had missed the bus, we might have piad 50 EUR for a taxi to our next stop. Our tour guide had specifically warned everyone about this. See you in the next post of my of my Greece tour. Yaklaşık iki saatlik bir yürüyüş ve fotoğraf çekme mücadelesinden sonra otobüsü kaçırmamak için tur otobüslerinin park ettiği alana doğru hızlıca geri yürümeye başladık. Eğer otobüsü kaçırırsak bir sonraki durağımız için 50 EUR taksi parası verebilirdik. Tur rehberimiz herkesi bu konuda özellikle uyarmıştı. Yunanistan turumun bir sonraki yazısında görüşmek üzere.
