I haven't written a freewrite on the blockchain in a long time.
I suppose this is going to be more of a brainstorm than a freewrite. I really need to organize my thoughts about how to run an e-book community on #hive.
I need to determine how to curate e-books in a reasonable fashon. I can't even find a single example of a full length e-book on hive. Based on the amount of well curated short stories and poems I can see that the talent is there. Lack of talented writers is not the issue. So why are there no e-books on hive?
One theory I had was that people are reading less. Maybe people's attention span is going down? A quick google search proves that theory incorrect. La times reported last week that "Ebook sales are higher due to coronavirus." Wired reported that "...juvenile book sales have been up 80 percent since the beginning of March."
Here are some bootlegged videos of popular e-books which have millions of views each. You can clearly see that the internet... society etc. is NOT responsible for the lack of e-books. We are responsible. Or maybe ... no one is responsible. Maybe it just hasn't happened yet. As far as I know: This is the first e-book publishing hive community. So i supposed that it's up to me and interested parties.
There are very well curated posts under the "writing" tag: However, if you translate that into fiat it's pennies compared to even a commercial flop of a printed book. This is our greatest challenge. It's only commercially viable to publish short form on hive. A full length book is worth much more than 10/15 hive.
So what is the answer here?
Possibly the only answer is to build curation over time and onboard more and more hive writers.
The thing im nervous about is publishing my first book here and getting a small payout. It's an incredible amount of work for nothing.
Hive blog and peakd are limited by having timed payouts. However: It's only a limitation if you have a lack of voters. It's theoretically possible to get a large payout on a long form post like an e-book. You might not get a vote as large as writing Harry Potter And The Sorcerers Stone. But you could make a nice supplemental income writing paperback type books often.
It's certainly possible to offer talented writers some sort of supplemental income.
It might take some time to build the curation however. Which isn't really a problem: It will be hard work though. Here's a quick plan on how to build curation for the e-book community.
Build up my vote.
Search for talented writers and cross post them into "e-books."
find other curators of the "writing" tag and onboard them.
Vote on as many quality writing posts as possible and follow writers.
I will post my first e-book here as soon as I believe the curation is quality enough to make at least a small profit. If someone else posts an e-book first I will heavily curate it.
