ATM (automated teller machine) is known for a place where money can easily be withdrawn by individuals and not a place for delay. Individuals who needs small or fast money to run their businesses will mostly use the ATM in every 24hrs. In every bank in Nigeria, they have a sign post or billboard telling people bank ATM is functional for every 24hrs per day. I'm testifying, most bank ATM are not functional as banks claim. Worst is whatever pushes ATM to work in a day may not stop their services from frustrating customers. If you go to any bank branch to withdraw money and customer services refer you to make use of the ATM. Going straight to ATM noticing a grave yard silent, it's a sign there's no money in the ATM or out of service. One certain time I was among a long ATM bank queue waiting to make little withdrawal. Waiting for hours already standing we all saw a young man who rushed inside the bank pleading from bank customers services agent they should help him fast with sum of #1000/$200. He explained to them what he need the money urgently for but nothing entered ear of customers services agent. They directed the man to come join queue with us where he can withdraw using ATM.
We in the ATM bank queue cited the man from afar because his body language speaks urgency and how important the money is needed by him. From our heart, we asked those whose turn to withdraw wait for the man withdraw first. They all obeyed for the man to withdraw. Mr. man was given whole ATM bank space to withdraw. After we waited for some minutes for the man, he came out from the bank ATM telling us bank ATM is rejecting his ATM withdrawal card and his wife is at the hospital to deliver. The man made us all believe through pleading for support that his wife needs to pay money before she'll be allowed to deliver. We pitied him, taxed ourselves and raised the money for the man. The man left that day.
Days after the incident, I went for another bank withdraw through ATM in different bank branch. Standing in a very long queue as usual to place my withdrawal the same man I saw in different ATM branch days ago came to make a withdrawal again. This time the man failed to enter inside the bank but came straight to where I was standing to withdraw as if he saw me in his last days encounter. The man told me to help him beg the queue to enable him make quick withdrawal because of condition of his wife at the hospital. The man told us his wife need to carry out a serious surgery and without any money deposited to the hospital, doctors will not carry out the surgery. My body was melt down and I have to plead on behalf of the man. After his plead, we all allowed him to place his withdrawal.
The man spent more than 30minutes to withdraw but he couldn't. He came to the queue with a plead for support his wife who's at the hospital. People tried to make some contributions for him but I stopped them. I explained my last encounter with the man in different ATM branch days ago. Before I could finish my explanation, a very tall and handsome guy forced the man's ATM withdrawal card from the man.
From what we saw from the man, what he used to visit ATM with is a carved plastic card without any code the ATM machine can access with. We all saw it the man is a scammer. Police was called and the man was handed over to them.
After the whole settlement I went to join queue where I used to stand to use the ATM, other people couldn't allow me join the queue but insisted i join from behind.
