Some years back, when I just graduated from school and was hunting for jobs—any job at all—just to be earning pennies at the end of the month, one of my bosses called me to inform me that he saw a slot somewhere and he would like me to follow him there to see the settings of the work, and if it's the type I can do.
He said clearly that it's sales Rep work in a phone and accessories office; he also said that the lady (the owner of the office) needs a trusted hand, that's why he feels I'm good for the job. Meanwhile, being a sales rep under a lady is something I can't do in my life, but due to how he presented the offer and how desperate he was to help my jobless situation, I agreed and followed him.
As we headed there, he began to tell me about the owner of the phone shop, and according to him, the lady's parents are rich, and this lady is trying not to be dependent on them. That's why she opened a phone office, and not only that, she has many other investments in other places in her name....in a nutshell, the lady is rich. He ended his narration with the most shocking: "And this lady is very tender; you're older than her by far"
"Wow!" I faked my surprise because his last statement sounded like a mockery to my poor life.
We got there, and a black-skinned, short lady dressed in a white polo and black jean trouser welcomed us. We sat down, and she and my boss began to converse in the local dialect—the dialect I've tried so hard to understand, but my ear is too hard for it.
Meanwhile, I felt less concern for their conversation and began to admire the large, beautiful phone hall as I patiently waited for the owner of the office to come because I was sure that that "small lady" dressed in a staff uniform (white and black) couldn't be the owner of such a place.
I was lost in thought when my boss tapped me on the lap and said, "Kingsley, this is the lady."
I came back alive, "You mean you're the one we are here to meet?" I surprisingly asked, pointing at her, and she answered with a smile on her face, "Yes, I'm the one; you're highly welcome"
Just like the saying "no man is ugly when he has money," that same scene appeared on the face of this lady.
- Just so suddenly, someone that I once saw as a short lady became very tall before my eyes.
- Someone whose curves I didn't admire turned out to be the most figure-eight lady on earth.
Gosh! Money can bring out beauty!
At that moment, a lot of Nollywood movie scenes began to strike my brain.
If I eventually work for this lady, she'll fall in love with me, and if we happen to marry, I'll be entitled to all her wealth.
Even if we don't marry, if she mistakingly falls in love with me, she'll make me her next of kin because love is blind... I will have access to her debit card.
*For sure, there's no way I can work for this lady, and she won't leave her current boyfriend and fall for me afterall, we have opposite complexions, she's dark while I'm light, unlike skin attracts
If it works out, she'll leave almost all of her establishments in my care.
As we began to talk, her enchanting smile was all I was tied to; I couldn't just leave the imagination world.
We got to the salary negotiation. I called out a reasonable amount that would be able to sustain a graduate like me, and she kept smiling all through, with our eyes clashing and calling for chemistry. I don't know why she easily agreed to the amount I called with little or no haggling.
We ended the negotiation that day; we exchanged contacts, and she said she would get back to me the next day.
Guys, I waited for 3 days, and she didn't call. I was not ready to call her too because I was saving my pride, but the next day, I decided to lose my pride. I called her, and she was giving many excuses, so I just let her be.
Maybe she saw the future already and decided to save herself.
That was how we ended, and my dream of becoming her boyfriend disappeared into thin air.
Surprisingly, I met her three days ago after many years, when I went out to buy a power bank in a phone shop that was newly opened close to my house. Omo! She's the owner of the place.
We talked well, and she sold the powerbank at a very low cost. The price is so low that I got scared if the powerbank was actually working fine.
