Number one reason why you should sugar wax at home:
There is none, DO NOT DO IT.
As compelling as it looks, this is my 13th reason why I will never believe whatever they say on the internet, it is either not real or plainly a big fat lie.
So I was on Instagram for my usual stalking and entertainment then I stumbled on an ad from a small business owner. The lady sells sugar wax and she did a really captivating and satisfying instagram reel on sugaring. The video was based on an overall tutorial on how to wax the proper way.
Curious me thought it would be a good idea to give it a try since I’ve never waxed before plus life is too short to not try whatever DIY you see on the internet so why not.
I went over to YouTube for more video tutorial because I’m not about to waste my money on a product and delivery cost when the ingredients are at my disposal.
I watched the video and immediately got the hang of it, mix sugar with water and lemon juice in a pan then bring to a boil till it turns golden brown and sticky. Fortunately, I got it at my first try and was feeling real positive about the whole procedure.
Well that was the easy part.
Then unto the main event. Application and removal.
The aim was to wax only my lady parts because I had recently shaved my legs and it takes longer to grow back so that was the only area with enough hair for this mission.
Not the Instagram nor YouTube lady warned about the pains.
I scooped a little and smudged it across my bikini line first, few seconds later I yanked it and it hurt but it was a 5/10 rating type of pain.
It actually wasn’t that bad, I mean if I can survive my periods without any pain relief then I can definitely get through waxing.
I finished with my bikini sides so it was the main area left.
I scooped more wax this time and spread it across the whole area so I could drag it all at one pull ergo the biggest mistake I made.
Little did I know the danger I put myself in.
At the first drag, It stung like a whole colony of bees but it didn’t come out.
The second drag with tears, still no.
Third drag, clear snot was out my nose but still no.
Then it hit me, the pain would not let me do it as I was too aware of myself and to make matters worse, I was home alone.
Moreover since removing the wax on its own was impossible, I tried doing the strip method.
I took a piece of dry clothe and stuck it to the wax, maybe dragging it with the clothe would be less painful.
I was so wrong.
Guys I tried this and it was even more agonizing than removing the wax alone, I literally transferred myself from frying pan to fire.
My claustrophobia was starting to kick in at this point because I felt like it was a painful hole I was stuck in.
I was so close to reporting the YouTube video and Instagram reel for encouraging me to do this but I had to cure myself first before I let anger get the best of me.
On my quest on searching for strategies to get rid of the strip wax without pulling I came across one comment that says water will dissolve the sugar.
With speed I rushed to the bathroom and focused the shower head directly on the area. Luckily it worked!
The sugar started melting until it was no longer visible then I gently removed the clothe and that was how I survived this dangerous situation.
After I was dry and calm, I went back to the YouTube channel for comments of people that had bad experience so I can share mine but I couldn’t find any.
Everyone was talking about how less painful and how effective waxing is. Some even mentioned that they abandoned shaving cream and stick for sugar wax and would never go back.
Then it got me retracing my steps and thinking of where I went wrong.
All I know is that after this experience, I would rather mop the ocean than try sugar waxing ever again. Maybe the soft wax in spas but sugar wax? Absolutely not!
So from a curious soul to another, don’t try sugar waxing at home unless your pain tolerance level is off the roof.
