I listened to over 400 hours of music in 2020
Spotify does this cool thing at the end of each year where they show a recap of your listening habits. It’s awesome to be able to see detailed stats about what I like to listen to.
This year was a bit different for me. I switched jobs once summer came around and that totally changed my music listening routine. For several years I had a job where I wore headphones during my 8 hour shifts. During that time I listened to music more often than podcasts and videos. I would average around 6 hours of music listening every single evening. Since changing jobs I may listen to half an hour of music each day, if that. I cannot wear headphones at work anymore which leaves me to only have time to listen when at home or in the car.
My numbers are down big time this year, but the types of music that I like have not changed. Electronic music (particularly dubstep) is still my favorite. I really don’t listen to much else. Although I do enjoy metal, classical, and some hip hop occasionally.
2020 has been rough on musical artists
It’s been quite a sad year for music, there are no more in-person live shows like there was before. Unless you count a drive-in show listening to the music through your radio as live music. I refuse to partake in that nonsense, especially since it seems prices have increased while there is a massive decrease in show quality. I understand artists are struggling, but it just seems boring to me the way it is now. I’m used to being in a crowd full of energetic people who aren’t afraid to bump into each other while covered in sweat. Standing mere feet from my favorite DJs and producers as they sling futuristic bass tunes.
It’s one of my favorite things in the world. I truly hope that the shows make a comeback one day, but it’s not looking good the more restricted and mundane our lies (I mean lives) are becoming.
Anyways, back to my #2020Wrapped
