As a first-time mom, I've been more anxious about my son's appetite the past few days than usual due to teething. What I mean is, that he's not into rice at this period which is a rich source of carbohydrates that gives our body energy. He seems to be a picky eater now ☹. I wondered why. Way back when he was six months old before we gave him solid food, we asked his Pedia for any suggestions and recommendations on what's the best and healthy option when it comes to food. Of course, as moms, we always prioritize our child's good health and safety. It's always been our prayer. Right, mom Hivers? I knew that you could feel the same way too!
Going back, we followed his Pedia’s advice to have the so-called traditional way by spoon-feeding rather than BLW which means baby-led weaning. Some of the traditional foods for babies include the following: rice porridge with ground mongo, rice porridge with vegetable soup, rice porridge with mashed vegetables like carrots, squash, potatoes, and chayote, pasta with mashed vegetables, and rice porridge with steamed chicken breast. I also introduced fruits to him like steamed apples, bananas, grapes, and mangoes all in small chunks and tender enough for him to swallow. It was still fresh in my mind that in this case, the child wouldn't be a fussy eater shortly since common food for daily living had been introduced to him already. But it was a turnaround! Hays! Hehehe!
Nevertheless, he drinks his milk vigorously. When we consulted this concern to his Pedia and did some check-ups, she said, "My son is fit and active and has nothing to worry about. Teething is just normal during his stage now which may cause discomfort and may also experience pain and irritability." My mom also tells me the same way too. Hahaha! Am I the one who feels paranoid during this stage of a child? I don't think so. All moms are. Mothers always want to provide comfort and relief to their teething children. Agree with me momshies?
As they said, if we could just take all the pains they feel, why not? A mother's love is pure and eternal.
Moms are always resourceful in terms of thinking and making what food to eat. Thanks to YouTube. Hehehe! To reveal, among all the food that I fed him, his all-time favorite that he surely eats even in his teething stage is "Pasta with Mashed Squash and Cheese".
How to Prepare His Pasta with Mashed Squash and Cheese Customized Recipe
- Gather the ingredients. Prepare the pasta, squash chunks, and cheese ( any of your desired brands)
- Cook Pasta. Boil water in a pot then cook the pasta. I let it boil for ten minutes. I want the texture to be very fluffy. Drain and set aside.
- Prepare the squash. Peel and chop the squash into small chunks. Wash them after. Boil them in a separate pot until they become so tender and easily pierced with a fork.
- Mash Squash. Drain the cooked squash and mash it with a spoon or mashed grinder tool. ( I used the one I ordered online or a spoon.)
- Heat the pan. Put a small amount of Olive Oil. I used Olive oil because it’s suitable for babies' consumption due to its healthy fats.
- Cook the pasta and mashed squash. Mix the pasta and mashed squash gently and thoroughly.
- Add Cheese. Grate or slice the cheese. Then add it to the pasta and mashed squash. Mix them well in a moderate heat until the cheese melts and the mixture becomes fluffy.
- Serve. I let it cool for five minutes then, serve.

What a satisfying feeling! He finished eating it all. Hehehe!
As a working mom, I’m always making sure that every day is well-spent with my son throughout this school break. Cooking, feeding, and playing with him are my means of maximizing every opportunity while at home.
I'm always hungry for weekends and day-offs. I have no choice, I need to work to provide our basic needs as a family. Hihihi!
Despite our hectic agendas, we should not forget to foster healthy relationships with our cherished ones by investing time with them doing the things /activities/pastimes that the entire family favors and enjoys. These are great means to create a stronger bond as a family where love and care are nurtured. Superb feeling!
That’s all for my blog today. My sincerest thanks for taking the time to read and support my blog, until next time. See you!
